gevertex Posted March 26, 2022 Report Posted March 26, 2022 (edited) Looking a purchase a 70’s J and would like to see if I can get a recommendation for a good pre-buy mechanic near Greeley, CO (near Denver). Aircraft had some substantial damage in the past, but seems to have been taken good care of in the following 10 or so years Edited March 26, 2022 by gevertex Quote
gdwinc Posted March 27, 2022 Report Posted March 27, 2022 (edited) No one has responded yet and this might not be the best suggestion you’ll get due to location (a couple of hours flight from Greeley), but Kerry McIntyre in Evanston WY is a Mooney expert. I was just at his shop yesterday and he was telling me about the wrecked TLS he rebuilt from pretty much nothing. Check out his website www.knr-inc.com - if for no other reason than the good Mooney content. Edited March 27, 2022 by gdwinc 1 Quote
Marc_B Posted March 27, 2022 Report Posted March 27, 2022 @gevertex just google search/mooneyspace search colorado prebuy...you'll find several suggestions. you just may have to wait as some are quite backlogged. Good luck! Quote

buckfever06 Posted March 30, 2022 Report Posted March 30, 2022 You might want to consider using SavvyAviation to recommend a shop and manage your pre-buy process. They charge a $750 fee (does not include the pre-buy inspection itself), but will credit half of it back toward your Savvy maintenance management membership if you decide to buy a membership. For a good intro to SavvyAviation and why you would want to use them, read or listen to Mike Busch, Manifesto. I listened to it last week and just bought his book "Mike Busch On Engines". I hope this helps. carusoam Posted March 31, 2022 Report Posted March 31, 2022 In any business… It comes down to the people doing the work…. Some MSCs are way better than the others… We have a few MSCs that really support us on MS… So… If you have something negative to say about MSCs… Try to be specific… right down to The Who and when… Bashing everyone equally gets in the way of what MS is about… There is nothing more disappointing when your favorite MSC drops the ball…. And there are pics to prove it… PP thoughts only, have a nice day! Best regards, -a- Quote

Unfortunately, the seller landed on as is where is terms which I couldn’t accept. The airplane had damage history and had been flown only ~10 hrs a year for the last 14 years. So the engine was low time, but the airplane hadn’t really been flown much since a major repair. It’s too much risk for me to take on without approving a good prebuy. Quote
