Anyone know a good Mooney mechanic or shop in the San Fran area that could look at a plane? J model.

Top Gun in Stockton, and Lasar in Sacramento area.

Thanks Ron, Top Gun is who has done the Annual for the last several Years. Actually they just completed the 2021 annual in Sept. Owner wants to sell and has a very good price but engine is high time (1900+) and tanks appear to have leaks. Staining on bottom. They also would rather a mechanic come to airport to inspect.

I would figure it needs a new engine soon.  Any hours you put on it I would consider free.  Greg at Advance Aircraft in Klamath Or redid the tanks on my previous F for about $7500.00. I would suggest you call him and get current pricing.

I think Greg is at Advanced Aircraft Troutdale (TTD). He'll do a prebuy for you as well but you have to get the plane up there. He has a ferry pilot he works with who might be able to fly it up for you as long as the owner agrees. If the only issue is the old engine and leaks and you offer a good price they might let you do it. It's about a 4 hour flight.

Top Gun is pretty meticulous. No one is perfect, but if they did the last annual that's definitely a good prognostic sign. As long as the owner fixed everything they found...

Must have been awhile back. $10,000 now. I schedule aug 2020 and got mine done July 2021

I’ve done back to back annuals lake aero top gun. Both found things the other missed.

Victory Aero tech in camarillo is really good and depending on work load may be able to travel, it's all about the timing.
