I am a new owner of a 1964 M20C. The engine sump is not draining fuel, other than a drop or two. The pull handle in the cockpit operates normally. I tried poking a piece of safety wire in the drain with no luck. I thought of perhaps using a small hose with suction. This is all assuming it’s clogged, which may not be the case. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks

Read up on how that sump works...

There is a small piece of rubber glued to the valve mechanism...

If you poke it... it is possible the piece of rubber has become unglued... shutting it off again, may be a challenge...

So... yes.  Somebody has had that challenge before... and there are pics of what it looks like... and whatever glue and materials required are probably documented there as well...

Getting the sump OH’d is also a possibility...

Using a fuel sample cup, is not recommended... but... you might get a feel for how well the mechanism is working from the other side...

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic... good luck with the next steps...

Best regards,

Sometimes I can fully pull mine, walk around to see what drained, and the floor is dry.  Go pull again with a little more determination, and there's a puddle on the floor.

Don’t shove lock wire in there, you will scratch the seating surfaces and ruin it. If it is clogged up, take it apart and clean it properly.
