I have an accepted offer on my first plane, a 1964 Mooney M20E. It appears to my untrained eye to be in incredibly good condition and was referred to me by my local avoinics guys who said it was a mint one and well take care of.
I am looking for a mechanic familiar with Mooneys in the Omaha, NE metro area or nearby to do a prebuy. I am not complex certified yet to move the plane easily so I need somewhere somewhat close. I am also needing a Mooney familiar instructor to get me signed off on the transition training. Thank you,

You want an instructor that is much more than just "familiar" with Mooneys to do your transition training.

+1 on the TT...

PB, did your insurance company give you guidance for how many hours of TT they require, and hours solo too?

Best regards,

No, I am working on insurance tomorrow.  I already had a quote for a C model from AVEMCO at $2200 though.  I think it was 10 hrs or 20 hrs of transition.  I already have my IR and nearly 200 hrs.

You might see variations of 10 and 10...

The IR is good...

Discuss getting some good IR transition mixed in with the usual transition stuff...

So many bases to cover....

Check in with our MS insurance guy...

Get the list of CFIIs from the MooneyFlyer...

The usual pilot stuff... still applies...

  • VFR... don’t run out of gas... don’t fly VFR into IMC...
  • IFR... don’t fly into thunderstorms... don’t fly into icing...

:)

Best regards,

If Leavenworth, KS is close enough, you might check with John Schmidt CFI.  He is listed here: https://themooneyflyer.com/cfi.html

I did a couple of hours of training with him last year, after my transition training. He also spoke highly of a mechanic on the field that maintains several Mooney's. I don't know much about him other than that.
