How about a Grumman AA1A? The two seat grummans are sporty to fly, have a cool sliding canopy, inexpensive and easy on insurance.

But no hot and high  Performance limited

Inexpensive airplanes are inexpensive until they need an engine.

Often it can be the end of the airplane as even with a new engine the value of the aircraft may not equal the engine cost.

I’m sort of facing that with my C-140, engine is telling me it needs overhauling as it’s losing oil pressure in this Summer heat, still within limits, but min limits.

If I get into the C-85 and need a replacement crankshaft, there are essentially none, so you either do the O-200 crankshaft, have the cases machined, 0-220 rods, pistons and cylinders, or just do an 0-200 conversion, that requires a new prop. Either is likely to cost more than the airplane is worth.

I’m going to I think pull the engine when cooler weather gets here and as it’s not making metal, maybe I’ll get lucky with the crank
