Hello all,

Trim chain cover was removed at last annual and screws are nowhere to be found.  I found the cover but what size are the 4 screws that hold the cover onto the assembly.  It's a pretty flimsy piece of plastic and thinking of 3d printing something a bit sturdier.

Related question, what is the proper lube for the trim chain?

Thank you.

Here is what the IPC shows for a J trim chain cover.

There is not that much room, so if you make it thicker it may interfere with the seats. Mine was missing completely when I bought my plane.

Correct, there's not.  There's even wear marks on the current cover.  Only talking about like 1/8" thickness.

Just get one from Plane Plastics.  I replaced mine two years ago.  It's a bit tricky finding the part on Plane Plastics but there are threads here on Mooneypace where we've discussed it before.  It was less than $30 if I remember right.

BTW if you read the latest MAPA log it again points out that a missing trim cover is a serious safety item.

A hangar elf bent a an aluminum strip about 3/4 wide and 1/8 or less thick, into the same shape as the cover and epoxied (JB Weld or some such) on to the cover on mine. The screws through the aluminum do not wallow out the holes like plastic does.

Just be like everyone else and use the biggest sheet metal screws you can find along with an impact drill :-)
