zaon xrx mooney eagle

Does anyone have any experience with the zaon xrx in an ovation or eagle. It seems as if it may take up too much space for visibility. Also any thoughts on hooking it up to a 496? Thanks

I can't get my Zaon MRX to work in my Mooney.  I think the steel cage might be disrupting the signal.

Works fine in my J coupled to a Garmin 696.  I prefer the traffic presentation on the 696 to that on the Zaon.

There are pilots on here on IFR flight plans in airways and had planes pass opposite direction above and below, no alert.  Be careful depending on those things.

I agree.  I want to hook it to my 496 but does it block your visibility from the front windshield?

Any of these portable traffic devices is limited by the cockpit environment for traffic detection. Best performance is obtained with an external antenna. I have the Monroy ATD-300+ with an external antenna and I am very pleased with it. Check it out at http://www.monroyaero.com/ATD300Webpage8.pdf

sharing ovation experience....

The seats in the ovation are height adjustable.  You can put many things on the instrument panel and they will not be in your line of sight.

 

For best over-the-nose eyesight, I raise my seat until my hat button bumps the ceiling, then take my hat off.

 

I think if I were using my Garmin for traffic, I would consider a mount that puts the Garmin up front too.  Seems like having it down low won't have it as part of an effective VFR scan.

Never worked well in my Eagle when on top of the panel. I ended up putting an L3 Sky-497 in which works like a charm.

I have one in my J model. It works fine and does not creat a visibility problem if positioned on the co-pilots side. Must be at least 6 inches from center post, or it will not work. Try to get it as level as possible in flight mode for best result (requires shimming).

I have it hooked to 496 for viewing.
