Hey all

Instarted to notice some significant machine gun style ratatat style static when I break squelch.  An in flight mag test on my last flight narrowed it down to the right mag.  Running on L only the static disappears.  I have a year old mag harness and 8 fine wire plugs. Thinking about checking the engine ground strap.  Anywhere else I should be looking?

Thanks

Condition of the leads coming off of the mag. The spark plug leads shouldn’t have breaks in the shielding and make sure the they are attached completely. Think it is 35 in.lb on the spark plug side (one of the IAs can confirm the torque or tell me that “just snug” is fine).

The p leads are supposed to have shielded wire.  The shield will break at the mag.  Some people add a lead to the shield and ground to a screw on the harness cap.

That’s how mine are- p lead shield terminates at the mag ground screw.   Thinking the condition of p lead shield would be the most likely area to inspect and find something.  The harness terminal leads looks good and I’d be surprised if a fine wire had a resistance issue, but I’ll check to be sure.
