kerry Posted January 28, 2018 Report Posted January 28, 2018 I just bought a airplane yesterday that has a Garmin GTX 327 transponder. I know nothing about the transponder. My Mooney has a Narco AT50A and I've never had a problem with it. I was planning to install Garmin's GDL82 with the Narco for ads-b out in the next year. Can anyone tell if it would be worth the effort to swap the 2 transponders. I'm not planning to keep the plane I just bought long term. I'm just fixing her up, flying her a bit and then letting her go. Quote

Keeping the 327 and adding the GDL82 is a nice inexpensive way to conform to the mandate. But it’s a dead end as far as ADS-B in. I would definitely compare the costs and see if you can go with a GTX 335. Considering the delta is about 750$ it may make more sense. One box instead of two and easier for someone buying the plane to go to the 345 if they want ADS-B in. Removing obstacles for buyers makes it easier to sell. Quote
