JosieB Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Hi, Could anyone help me to advise whether a slightly dented firewall has any detrimental effect on a Mooney. Would it, say, affect the price of the Mooney should it be sold on ? How much would it cost to repair ? It's not cracked just has a slight dent in it. Thanks Quote
MARZ Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 What dented it? Most firewall damage I've seen was the result of something a bit more catastrophic that required repairs. Quote
N9937c Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 A good buddy of mine was looking for an Ovation several years back and had a relative that had a nice one. A prebuy was done and i got there right before the cowls went back on and noticed that the firewall had some wrinkles in it. We passed on that plane. The tubular stucture would have to be deformed to allow the firewall to not be straight and true. larry Quote
triple8s Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 In todays market? EVERYTHING should affect the price. There are many VERY good deals out there right now and to be honest I would probably not settle for a bird that I had to wonder about. I just barely missed a really great deal on a Mooney, yes I already have one but hey like I told wifey now is the time to trade up. The firewall is a very substantial structure and if it is bent or deformed around the engine mounts I would run like hell. If it is bent or deformed low then you have a gear collapse, there are better deals to be had. You dont have to settle. Quote
jetdriven Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Ours has a couple dents where the copilots feet go. Turns out they were deliberately put there to allow a wrnech to be put on the engine mount bolts. Its not damage per se. Its just been clearanced. Quote
