laytonl Posted June 9, 2016 Report Posted June 9, 2016 Guys, I want to alert you to something I found this past weekend. I returned from a trip on Sunday and dropped the cowling to start the oil draining for an oil change. As usual, I began inspecting the engine for any issues and found the back portion of my SkyTec starter was separating from the drive part and I could move it up and down by hand. The starter was firmly attached to the engine, it is the motor itself that is separating from the starter drive component. We had to take the starter off to replace the bolts holding unit together. The bolts are not safetied, they have tabs to secure the bolts which apparently isn't sufficient. The starter was working fine with no hints of a problem. Lee Quote
Bob_Belville Posted June 9, 2016 Report Posted June 9, 2016 Lee, I saw the starter in Lynn's shop. Just 2 bolts and as you note just tabs, no safety wire. My E has had a SkyTec Flightweight since 1997 and I'm going to check it closely! Quote

slowflyin Posted June 10, 2016 Report Posted June 10, 2016 Mine did the same...sent it to them and they fixed it even though it was well out of warranty. Great service. Quote
Yetti Posted June 10, 2016 Report Posted June 10, 2016 (edited) I would think great service is making stuff that don't fall apart. It's a PITA to R&R the starter Edited June 10, 2016 by Yetti 1 Quote
