I was looking at my parts manual, I'm not certain I know which part you're talking about.

Can you tell me which part I should be looking at on the attached diagram?  Thanks!

Steering System.jpg

Part # 1 is the culprit , the arm coming off of it where # 22 bolts up is the point of failure.... The weld fails...

I'm just finishing my 65 M20E after a years work. She sat for 4 years before it was given to me. The project has been long and expensive, much more than I expected. I should have the interior finished in a couple of weeks. Considering I'm an A&P and I have done all the work, I'll have about 20 grand more invested than I can sale it for. The last item left is to remove the gear so I can replace the briskets and bushings.  IMG_0627 (1).JPG

Thanks Alan! FWD side or aft side? I only ask because you can't really see the welds in there. I have looked at mine before and tried my best to see what's going on in there. Pretty hard to see the welds with out removing the part. I'll take another look again. What's the TT again on this airframe? I'm right at 4100. The steering on these old 200hp machines with the short tail and a left x-wind really get your attention!!

A nicely painted two-bladed TopProp or composite MT to go with that, Alan?

Best regards,

Already have a Hartzell 3 blade Top Prop waiting for me down there....
