Hey Guys...

Given the state of previous maintenance "program"of this plane, I am going to be re-rigging the gear during the annual... with my IA of course.  I have read the manual thoroughly and I have it in my head of what to do.  There is a bit of confusion from the service manual on my part.

Here's the question.

Any reference to the rigging tools and pre-loads seem to be in relation to the manual gear.  The only thing I see in relation to correct loading on the electric gear is the over-center spring adjustment.  Maybe Clarence can chime in.  Do I need the pre-load tools for the electric gear?

The main gears need the preload tool

The nose gear push/pull rods on the electric gear models have springs on the rods (the manual gear airplanes do not have then).

On those you measure the spring  "squeeze" between locked down and unlocked.

Off the top of my head it is .030-.070" squeeze but look it up.

No measurement of the nose gear preload is required other than the spring measurement on electric gear airplanes.

Manual gear requires checking of pre load or down lock tension for all three gear.  Mooney has tools for this.

Electric gear requires checking of main gear pre load or down lock tension, while the nose gear down lock tension is check by measuring compression of the nose gear springs.  Same tools for main gear, plus a vernier calliper for the nose springs.

All of this is spelled out in the maintenance manual.
