HopePilot Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 Seem to have a little squeak when I turn the trim wheel. If I were to remove the trim wheel cover, what type of lubrication is appropriate? Thanks! Also, I seem to recall someone made a lubrication guide, but I couldn't find the thread. Quote
RobertGary1 Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 (edited) It's probably stiff at the tail jack screw. It has a little boot on it you'll need to remove with a micro little screwdriver. Use lubriplate as I recall. I can check the MIL spec against the manual when I get home but I believe it's going to be lubriplate. Btw should be lubed at each annual. It's in the lube guide found in your maintenance manual. The lubes are listed by mil spec. I just reread and saw you said squeak. Normally you lube the wheel from below but maybe you could get to it from the top. I think that's lubriplate too but I can check. Technically you're supposed to have the maint manual available while doing this (if a fsdo guy had it in for you)) -Robert Edited September 5, 2015 by RobertGary1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 There is a small chain that goes from the wheel to the gearbox. The only real way to service the gearbox is to take it apart, clean all the parts and reassemble it with new grease. Not really that hard. To to keep from messing up the trim adjustment, run the trim to one of the stops before disconnecting the torque tube. Don't turn the torque tube by hand. When you reassemble the gearbox, run it to the same stop and reconnect the torque tube. 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 The squeak could be coming from the friction bolt. If you remove the plastic chain cover in the cabin you will see it. I wouldn't lube it. Clean it and see if the friction pad is warn out. 1 Quote
RobertGary1 Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 The manual says tri-flow the chain and cogs. Usually those is done from below as its required at annual/100 hours. Lube the chain and run it up and down to lube the top cog. Page 2-17 item 17 in your manual. -Robert Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted September 5, 2015 Report Posted September 5, 2015 No problem lubing the chain. I wouldn't lube the friction bolt. Quote

RobertGary1 Posted September 6, 2015 Report Posted September 6, 2015 That's what my F looks like. Except it's all goo'd up from decades of lubrication. -Robert Quote
