StinkBug Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Today we're taking in the sights of Chicago, but tomorrow morning we head westward once again. Our original plan had us flying straight through, but now we're talking about splitting up the trip. Problem is we cant think of anything interesting along our route. We need to get at least halfway tomorrow, if not farther. We don't mind straying from the direct route to get somewhere cool, but preferably not hours of flying time off route. Anything in eastern Colorado? Brandon keeps pushing for mount rushmore, but since we don't have a day to spend there I'm not sure if that'll work. Since we're already turning one day of flying into 2 I think the most we'll have is a couple hours. If it's doable I'm game, but I don't really know. Thanks! Dallas Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 There is an air museum in Liberal KS, but I haven't been there myself yet. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 I used to go to Rapid City a lot. If you want to see Mt Rushmore just go buzz it. The airlines do it all the time. I have the same problem whenever I fly up to the upper mid west. no place interesting to stop. Let Airnav fuel planner decide for you. It is like flying roulette. You get to stop at places you would never stop otherwise. I have found the airports with cheap fuel are the friendliest. Borrow the airport car and go into town and have some lunch. 4 Quote
Joe Zuffoletto Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 I live in a kinda nice little town along your route in eastern CO... it's called Denver. Quote
MB65E Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Grand Junction is a good overnight. Durango, . SantaFe, 4-corners, Amarillo TX has a Fairfield and a Buffalo Wild Wings walking distance from the hotel. Tac air provides good transportation. Easy day the next day back home. -Matt Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Grand Junction, Durango? Great places, but you might as well keep on going to Moab. It is only 1/2 hour away. 1 Quote
DanM20C Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Omaha has the SAC museum, just in case you didn't get enough at Dayton. When was the last time someone got to see 2 different B-36's within a couple of days of each other. 1 Quote

201LK Posted August 27, 2015 Report Posted August 27, 2015 Cabela's in Sidney, NE. They will provide a ride from airport to their store in their van. They have a restaurant in the store. You can see where it all began. Friendly service at the airport as well. Great stop. 1 Quote
StinkBug Posted August 28, 2015 Author Report Posted August 28, 2015 Looks like we're gonna aim for Denver. Will have to see how the weather treats us though. It's looking like there's some ugly stuff moving across the middle states right now blocking our path. Quote
