Tony Armour Posted August 19, 2015 Report Posted August 19, 2015 I was going to go look at it in Atlanta and then I figured out it was in New Mexico. $15,000, doesn't look bad. https://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/for/5157263261.html Quote
wayneferguson Posted August 19, 2015 Report Posted August 19, 2015 I saw that one posted last week. I know there's not many mite's still around, but it looks like it would be a fun little plane! Quote
Tony Armour Posted August 19, 2015 Author Report Posted August 19, 2015 Roger, fly it to Georgia one day so I can check it out :-) Quote
Raptor05121 Posted August 19, 2015 Report Posted August 19, 2015 I like the bit on the right: "Size/Dimension: SMALL" hahaha 1 Quote
aviatoreb Posted August 19, 2015 Report Posted August 19, 2015 I thought Al Mooney was tall and that he made only airplanes he could fit in - tall and skinny - this is too small for Al? Quote
Guest Posted August 19, 2015 Report Posted August 19, 2015 Tall and thin should not pose a fit problem. Before I disassembled mine I fit with no troubles at 6'2" and 195. Clarence Quote
Mooneymite Posted August 21, 2015 Report Posted August 21, 2015 As you can tell from my posting moniker, I'm a huge fan of the M-18. However, I can tell you for sure one needs to be very careful before buying. Quite a few have modifications which make their airworthiness "questionable", many cannot be flown within certified weight and balance. There is an onerous AD specifying how the wooden airframe/tail must be inspected. Due to parts availability, the Continental powered Mites are more popular than the Lycoming model. There is a wealth of info at: http://mooneymite.com/ If you can find a good one, Mooneymites are a blast to fly, but educate yourself before you buy a headache. Quote
ryoder Posted August 22, 2015 Report Posted August 22, 2015 I'd like to have on some day or an Ercoupe. Quote
Raptor05121 Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 I'd like to have on some day or an Ercoupe. I should be bringing my Mooney home this weekend. My uncle is also flying his Ercoupe from his summer home in Idaho down here to Florida, should be around the same time. Is it sad I'm actually excited to fly an Ercoupe more than the Mooney? haha 1 Quote
DS1980 Posted August 24, 2015 Report Posted August 24, 2015 The hand prop is no problem. The wooden structures have AMOCs that allow a much easier inspection. There is also a new company that is making the Lycoming engines as 0 time. 1 Quote
HRM Posted August 29, 2015 Report Posted August 29, 2015 One should not consider purchasing a mite without a consult with Boyd Maddox. He has literally disassembled and then reassembled them. Two years ago I was in his maintenance hangar at KAXH and he had a Mite in small pieces laid out on the floor like a kid getting ready to assemble a model airplane. 1 Quote
