gtopper Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 My M20J has KLIXON 20TC rocker switches for evrything from the landing lilght to the fuel boost pump, the switches work great but the plastic covers are starting to break in two pieces and fall off. The manufacture, Sensata Tech informed me they do not sell just the plastic covers and I need to replace the complete switch. Does anyone know where I can get ricker switch covers, the complete switch is over $100.00 each. Thanks, Greg
Cruiser Posted September 13, 2010 Report Posted September 13, 2010 I had the cover break on my fuel boost rocker switch. Maybe you should try contacting them again and suggest that a trouble report might be in order since so many of these are failing. Perhaps the FAA might want to look into it. If the cover falls off in flight it could be very difficult to turn the boost on for an emergency.
OR75 Posted September 14, 2010 Report Posted September 14, 2010 Chief aircraft sell them and they used to be around $70 - $80. The Chief web site does not list price anymore and you need to call them to get a quote
Geoff Posted October 27, 2014 Report Posted October 27, 2014 Ran accross these... No affiliation YMMV... http://www.shapeways.com/model/1335224/switch-cover-klixon-20tc-v0-5-smooth-front.html?li=more-from-shop&materialId=6 1
helitim Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 These are the one I used. They don't fit quite as tight as the originals but, for the price, it's a very good alternative. Tim
John Pleisse Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 There have been several discussion forums on this. Post 1983-4, these covers for 28 volt systems are available. 1977-1983 14v, S-O-L. One gentleman began a thread in hopes of having these switch covers custom made and even thought there was enthusiasm, it never materialized.
FlyDave Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 Depending on how the switch cover is broken, you may be able to use 2 part epoxy for plastic to put it back together. It's not hard. Clean the switch well, put a little epoxy on the broken seam (just enough so it doesn't ooze out when you push the pieces together and just enough to form a bond, Then put a layer across the back of the switch across the seam, ~ 1/8" on either side. Let it set and you should be good.
PeteMc Posted January 15, 2021 Report Posted January 15, 2021 (edited) Anyone have any current options for the Klixon 20TC switch covers? (1980 K version) My mechanic had an order in with ShapeWays, but hasn't been able to reach them. Edited January 15, 2021 by PeteMc
carusoam Posted January 16, 2021 Report Posted January 16, 2021 Pete, You might find the thread where the discussion is 3D printing them... One MSer in particular had good success with the whole design process and proving over to shapeways... Find that guy, and invite him here... I think his avatar is a military helicopter....(?) Best regards, -a-
tmo Posted January 18, 2021 Report Posted January 18, 2021 @AH-1 Cobra Pilot if memory serves. 3D printed Klixon switch covers. 1
PeteMc Posted January 18, 2021 Report Posted January 18, 2021 Do you happen tohave a link or a full name of the company? Searching for "3D" or "3D Printing" isn't going to get me very far.
