Just to be clear, to replace the Dukes 4140-00-21A the part numbers are as follows:

Weldon: 8164-A  (not sure if it is certified for a "C", carburetor)

or

CJ: 4140-00-21ACJ

I have read all the threads and just want to see if anyone has any update on reliability on either one...

Which is preferred?  Or just get the Dukes overhauled and live with the fact it will fail soon again....

I replaced the original Dukes with a C&J Aviation 4140-00-21ACJ nearly two years and 200 hours ago.  No trouble yet but I certainly wouldn't expect any either.

I think that is the route I am going to take.  Is the C&J pump designed differently?  more metal on the inside?  I read the Dukes has lots of plastic on the inside...

Is the C&J certified for continuous run unlike the Dukes?

I am going to call them Monday but the suspense is killing me...........................LOL

Do these major components always break on a Friday night?

Thank you....

It never fails on Monday at 9 AM. Don't you know this is aviation? :-)

Actually mine failed a few years ago right at home, on the ramp, on a Tuesday. Just lucky I guess.

As the backup pump in case of an engine driven pump failure, I would hope that it can run continuously until I can get on the ground again :-)

Just like the inflight engine failure drill- mixture rich, electric pump on, switch tanks.

Yeah that would be a good plan....

My broken Duke says on the back " for intermittent duty only."  Sure would be nice to have one certified for continuous....not that I would leave it on but you would think it would be built stronger.....

Plus while doing pattern work it should be on most if not all of the time.....

If anyone knows of a continuous pump that is certified for a M20C (carburetor) please chime in.....

After many phone calls I decided to go with the pump from CJA.  The 4140-00-21ACJ.  They are giving me a price of $1009.50 for a brand new one.  This is over 200 dollars off of the advertised price on the website.

CJA told me that their pump does not have the 10 year overhaul requirement.  It is on condition only.  Said they use much stronger material and as of today they have never had any warrantee work on units sold.  Told me they have been selling them for over 2 years.

Another option was rebuild the Dukes which will no doubt fail again.

And of course the Weldon pump, 8164A which would relocate the pump from forward of the firewall to behind and underneath the airplane with the mooney kit 940018-501 for a cost of anywhere from 2600 to 2900 plus a lead time of anywhere from 2 weeks to 16 weeks as quoted by several MCS's......

As I was typing this Aircraft Spruce just called me and quoted 1100 for the CJA pump plus an additional 400 if I don't send them the Dukes core and it will take over a week to get vs. the 2 days it will for purchasing it direct from CJA...

I went with CJA direct of course.......

Way better deal than I got a couple of years ago.  I paid $1,650 and got a $400 refund after I sent the Dukes core back.  Sorry I didn't see your questions sooner but it sounds like they've been answered.  Good luck getting going again!

It was such a good deal I just called them back to verify that it was NEW and not something else and she said yes it is factory new.....They were giving me a deal to match my other option they thought I was going to go with which was the weldon....

They want to get the word out on their pumps and be a legitimate competitor......

Time will tell how it works out......
