Oscar Avalle Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 Guys, After several back and forth I decided that I had enough of electronic ignitions and I am going back to magnetos. Question: What are the part numbers for Slick Magnetos for the Mooney M20C:? Engine O 360 A1D Thanks!!!! Quote
Alhall Posted March 10, 2015 Report Posted March 10, 2015 The Slick no's installed on mine are 4370 and 4347. The 4347 is the duel point mag. 1 Quote

jetdriven Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 Bendix s-200s may also apply. Looks like 750$ for the S4LS-200 and 666$ for the s4LS-204. Plus core but CMi takes slick and Bendix mags from eBay for cores. http://www.aeroinstock.com/wp/cmi-factory-rebuilt-bendix-magnetos-for-lycoming-engines Quote
Hank Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 Guys, After several back and forth I decided that I had enough of electronic ignitions and I am going back to magnetos. Question: What are the part numbers for Slick Magnetos for the Mooney M20C:? Engine O 360 A1D Thanks!!!! So are you throwing in the towel completely, or will you try again after returning to the US? I wish there was a viable electronic ignition system available . . . Quote
Marauder Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 Sorry to hear about these problems Oscar. Hopefully the mags will get you squared away again. Quote
Andy95W Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 Hank- Check out Electroair http://www.electroair.net/stc_ignition_kit.html Very impressive product, well-liked by Aviation Consumer Magazine. Quote
BigTex Posted March 11, 2015 Report Posted March 11, 2015 Oscar, my O-360-A1D has Bendix mags. The PN for them are: 10-163045-3 & 10-600644-1. Hope this helps. 1 Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted March 11, 2015 Author Report Posted March 11, 2015 Hank, yes, I did throw the towel, at least until I am back in the US. My LASAR ignition is dying. I talked to Joe at Champion who has been working with the LASAR ignition for more than 16 years... and his diagnosis was clear. He offered me to send the control box to the factory for them to look at it and tell me if it is broken or not. However, the thinks that the control box is most likely broken and Champion does not fix it anylonger. A new box would cost above 3k, if I could find one. His recommendation was go back to Magnetos. I also tried electroair, but my CHT went through the roof (it was a probe issue) but my local mechanic is now saying that the system is not compatible with Mooneys (Total BS..) and that he would not work on the plane anylonger if I were to install the system. Unfortunately he is the only guy in the country who knows Mooneys. Overall, I would say that there is a lesson... unless the technology is mature enough, if you move and become an early adopter you may end up without adecuate support....which is what happened to me with LASAR. So I had it! To say the least I am very frustrated, but I also think that at some point you have to stop trying and stop pushing the boundaries if the capacity is not there. So I decided to go back to magnetos and in the future once I am back in the US I may try electroair again... Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted March 28, 2015 Author Report Posted March 28, 2015 Well yesterday was my first flight with the new old magneto technology! Everything looks great. CHT normal, Oil temp normal... Back in the air, finally! 2 Quote

Oscar Avalle Posted March 28, 2015 Author Report Posted March 28, 2015 Not yet. working on it... but most likely around July. Quote
ryoder Posted March 28, 2015 Report Posted March 28, 2015 I flirted with the idea of an electronic ignition briefly and am glad to hear your experience because I was starting to have doubts. Quote
Oscar Avalle Posted March 30, 2015 Author Report Posted March 30, 2015 The electronic ignition is nice, its stars well, it runs nicely and it sounds much better than the normal mags. However, you need to have some flexibiilty regarding the CHTs, as it makes the cylinders run hotter. My CHTs are already pretty high with mags, if you add 30 to 40 degrees to the CHT... I was running in the mid to high 400s. I just did not feel confortable with this... Quote
