Urs_Wildermuth Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 Folks, question to run by you experts here: My M20C, SN 3269, has got a bottom of the yellow arc marking on the airspeed indicator of 155 mph/135 kt. If we look at the manuals, we find a figure of 150 mph/130 kts. What could be the explanation for this? Are there different years of Mooneys with different Vno figures? Quote
Hank Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 Makes me wonder if the ASI has been replaced sometime. I've heard of 150 and 175 mph, depending on the year, but not 155. The instrument should match the Owners Manual. Quote

There are some differences between model years but Hank is correct that the information in the manual for the plane is supposed to match what is on the gauge. Quote
orionflt Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 I have a C model SN# 1993, the flight manual and airspeed indicator are both the same at 150 MPH 130 knts. Brian Quote

mooniac15u Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 "True Ind" airspeed is the old CAR3 terminology for Calibrated Airspeed. From CAR3 3.46: (b ) "True indicated" or "calibrated" air speed for performance and operating purposes equal to indicator reading corrected for position and instrument errors. Quote
Mooneymite Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 Getting a Mooney owner to tell "true airspeed" is about as likely as a fat woman telling her true weight. Lying about airspeed on this forum is considered a piloting skill. :-) :-) And, yes. My C regularly cruises at, or near the speed-of -sound (of my lies). I'm not sure that is reflected in the type certificate. 3 1 Quote

Urs_Wildermuth Posted February 4, 2015 Author Report Posted February 4, 2015 Right, thanks guys. I did get an answer from Mooney´s Mike Miles a few minutes after writing my mail to them, top service. The ASI is wrong and the manual right, as expected. Looks like nobody noticed this in 50 years of operation. Well, time to get the paintbrush out for my instrument mechanic. 1 Quote
