wedbell Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 I live in Hawaii and fly with Anderson Aviation on Oahu. They have a Mooney (N66201). It is $195/hr to rent (you can buy 10 hour blocks to get that down a little). They have other aircraft as well. Personally, I think I'd sell and rent. The Mooney is pretty fast for island hopping. You are basically flying VFR all the time for scenic tours, and I think something slower is better for that. I have owned two Mooneys, though, so I do prefer to fly it. I don't fly a lot as it is more of the same when you go, and I just go for fun every once in a while. Quote
RobertGary1 Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 I remember seeing a Cessna below deck on the Kitty Hawk coming back for the Philippines. When I asked about it I was told "skipper's plane" Quote
BorealOne Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 As per the rescue video I concluded that Mooneys float longer and don't flip. Choose your rescue wisely. José I'll take the Twin Otter on floats. Quote

NotarPilot Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 LAX to Honolulu is 2230 nm Just for fun, if you had to fly shorter legs - (under 1500 nm): LAX to Seattle 836 nm Seattle to Anchorage 1249 nm (there are places to stop between) Anchorage to Adak Alaska 1039 nm (there are a few places to stop between) Adak to Midway Island 1424 nm (there are no places to stop between) Midway to Johnston Atoll 816 nm Johnston Atoll to Honolulu 818 nm (Midway dir Hololulu is 1143 nm) total LAX - Honolulu via Johnston Atoll 6182 nm Better carry an extra quart of oil. I'm pretty sure Midway does not have avgas available. Quote
