Wakeup Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 One thing lead to another and I am replacing rear windows while interior is out. I thought everything was going great until I realized the new windows are thinner then the old ones. My problem is what to do with the L brackets that are leaving too big of a gap? 1)Make new L brackets for the new thickness and use same holes 2) Put a spacer between the bracket and window to make it tight? 3) Use same L brackets and drill new holes? Please advise. Thanks Troy
DonMuncy Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 I think any one of those would work. Probably neatest if you made new ones. Probably easiest to mount the old ones with new holes. Is the trim going to cover the small difference in thickness
N601RX Posted September 13, 2014 Report Posted September 13, 2014 Whichever you decide to do one of these hole finders will make it easy to correctly locate the new hole. I would also use prc sealant instead of rtv or silicon. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/topages/strapDuplicator.php?clickkey=3936
DonMuncy Posted September 14, 2014 Report Posted September 14, 2014 I used Flamemaster access door sealant. #3300, if my memory is working. Kinda messy, but works very well.
Wakeup Posted September 14, 2014 Author Report Posted September 14, 2014 Ok. Thanks guys. I can't remember the name but I'm going to use the same sealant you use for the tanks. It's what Lasar recommend. Thanks. Troy
N601RX Posted September 14, 2014 Report Posted September 14, 2014 That's the best stuff. I used it on all 5 of my windows. It's a little messy, but a good tape job on both the window and plane will help a lot. It smooths down nicely with a finger wetted with dish washing liquid. If it gets somewhere it shouldn't don't smear it in, let it dry for a day or so and it can be removed easily with your finger nail. One of the places that sells it sells a cut off bolt to put in a drill for mixing it in the semi kit http://sealpakcoinc.com/product-category/application-systems/ It can be dispensed with a regular caulk gun if you cut away a little of the diameter of the piston on the gun.
