Anyone heard it is 2015?

Not even close Dave, not even in the same universe. Imagine being called into a hearing and eventually being black listed because your captain for a few years may have been "red" and supposedly transferred his values to you.

But we are not a Judeo-Christian nation. In fact the Founding Fathers were specifically trying to avoid any religious influence. All the references to "in God we trust" on the money and "one nation under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance was inserted in the McCarthy era 1950s which was rife with some serious anti-American behavior, accusations, character assassinations, and downright shameful events. McCarthy himself was an alcoholic and a womanizer.

I find it funny how the Religious Right is always trying to insert "good Christian values" into laws and claiming persecution. Tell you what, you can hate homeosexuals, blacks, women, poor people all you want. That's your right. Homosexuals may want to get married and share property, enjoy all the protections under the law that you do with your wife, I believe that's their right. Married in a legal sense I really don't care what the religious organizations call it. Adam and Steve getting married doesn't affect you. But when you pass a law that blocks their granting such a legal status, it goes so much farther. You are limiting their civil rights, they aren't limiting hours. Now apply this to blacks, Jews, women, poor folks. They are the ones under attack.

I used to go to church and was a good little boy and got saved, came on down to get re-baptized at the tent revival the whole bit. Even married myself a small town Oklahoma preacher's daughter. But some, thing didn't sit right and it took me a few years to understand what it was. If Jesus told us to love thy neighbor and to do into others, then why all the hate and evil spewing forth. Why all the calls to invade sovereign nations to destroy their way of life and their process along with a hundred thousand or so of their citizens. Why to the call to do it again? Why did organized religion protect thousands of known pedophiles and allow it to happen? People wonder why church attendance among my generation is the lowest of any. Probably because the smell it too great to bear.

Amen.

29 of the founding fathers who signed The Declaration of Independence were deeply religious and wrote extensively on religious purpose. More than 15 were graduates of Seminary.

"Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the Bible for their only law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God ... What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be."

--Diary and Autobiography of John Adams, Vol. III, p. 9.

They were wise enough to know the perils of theocracy, but also knew their conviction was absolutely, 100% faith based and had public purpose. I can do quotes all day...need a few more? Can I get you some Jefferson widdat? McCarthyism is no less misguided than to have our society stripped of these moral groundings. Funny, when it comes to Hollywood, turns out McCarthy was right.

The evil Christian is attacking blacks, Jews, women, the poor. Hahaha!!!! Everyone is "under attack!" Hahaha!!! (Except the white Christian man.) Dude, do,you drink? If not ... maybe drinking and drugs would help?

The Christians passing laws that discriminate and deny other social classes or groups the same legal freedom that they enjoy".

There, FIFY.

If we evolved from apes, with millions of us covering the earth, the "missing link" should be everywhere. The evidence should be plentiful. There's a hypothesis, because our DNA is similar That's not proof ... that's a suggestion ...

Are you fucking kidding me. We have all quite a fossil record of the homo specie. You do understand there are multiple finds of homo spieces other than sapiens?

The missing links that are missing are from much earlier in the evolutionary process, not from the last few million years. We have those.

We did not advance as a country because of Judeo-Chirstinan values. We advanced because science including a Nazi called Wernher von Braun. We made great strides. We still are making great strides. What the fuck is it with this backlash? It will not be ISIS that will bring us down. It will be people like yourself that will drag us down back into the dark ages. Seriously, WTF happened to this great country of ours? I am at a loss for words.

FIFTY EIGHT FREAKING YEARS ... AND WHO IS STILL CONTROLLED BY A DEAD BIGOT BURIED FIFTY-EIGHT YEARS AGO?

Not me!

Sad to lIve your life in a great nation, free, I mean totally freakin free, and still a slave to the past DELUDING YOURSELF that you are "under attack!"

Dude you are still controlled by biggots from 4000 years ago who thought the sun revolved around the earth. It says so in the bible.

My ass John, I like surf and turf, and do not enjoy stonings unless you're referring to the ones in Colorado.

Basically entire human progress, as far as I am concerned, has been a constant, non stop struggle against religious superstition and its product, ignorance and stupidity. Dave, 50 years would would have been quoting the bible against interracial marriage. John would have been setting the fires under Galileo and Copernicus. And the struggle will continue. Good news is at the latest polling, 24% of Americans now find themselves either agnostic or openly atheist. One day, when that number reaches 51%, you can start screaming about being persecuted. Was there a shortage of lions in Rome or something?

Because of this this anti-belief on science and fact stuff we have a whole lot of new problems. The triumph of ideology over science, fact, and Hard data. I mean we really are getting stupider as a nation. Now birth control pills cause abortions. The return of Measles. Iraq really did have Weapons of Mass Destruction. There is a difference between legitimate rape and those other kinds. Restaurant workers should have the option of washing their hands after using the bathroom. No go zones full of Muslims in Europe. And do we really have all the answers about Benghazi?

If it was up to you fuckers, we would very closely resemble Iran. How about when we perform any sort of research, we first run it by your religious committee to make sure whatever we discover does not interfere with your 4000 year old understanding how this world operates. Would that please you?

Byron,

You edited your post. My response was to the first part before you changed it.

I hope when you wake up tomorrow, you think of all the blessings in your life and give thanks for them. It beats living every day feeling you are under attack.

I hate hearing your accounts of hate spewing from people whom call themselves Christians, the disappointment you had and hypocrisy of some organized religion, and the pedophile conduct and cover-up of certain religious groups. Believe it or not I am not very far off from feeling the same as you do?

Men mess up this world. We are the problem. Someone told me once "not to blame God for what men do ... " For whatever reason that one comment changed the way I looked at things. The "Man" hanging on the cross ... for me that changed everything ...

Would that include you, spreading bullshit theories and attempting to deny basic education to next generation of young ones when you donate to various christian causes attempting to bring back creationism to public schools?

People want religion in their laws and government as long as it's their religion and we have a great many Christians. But the Fox News crowd is convinced that Iran and the rest of those Muslims are the problem. Well, having visited a few myself, it's pretty disgusting to see the implementation of it. And I'd love a Bud Light and a fried chicken leg around 5PM but that's call to prayer time, can't get it. That's religion in government.

This thread only made me realize I need to redouble my efforts, make more money, donate much more than I have been to ACLU, Planned Parenthood and the Democratic Party. And not for what they all stand for, but what they stand against. They stand against turning us into a fascist theocracy. Unholy marriage of church and corporate interests. That's one marriage I stand against.

Can we get a group "we hate Christians" hug?

The difference is I don't support new laws to limit their freedoms.

Present scientific evidence of evolution Present creationism. Make both arguments ... let people decide. It's called being impartial and unbiased.

I know I am not.

No one is really, but we who educate should try to remove personal bias. What a great teacher it is, who can present both sides of an argument and no one can really tell which he endorses.

Like in the media too ... Serious bias on either side ... Watched Rachel Madow bag on Rand Paul on my five minutes is all I can stand news dose yesterday ... What I would give for a truly unbiased reporting network?

One is a scientific theory, the other is pure fiction with zero fact supporting it. Zero, none, nada. There is no scientific arguments to be presented for creationism. Not in science class. Are you fucking kidding me? How about when we teach kids about STDs, in addition to promoting abstinence as 100% solution and condoms as promoting safety but not eliminating all risk, we also present with a theory that if all fails, raping virgins cures AIDS. Millions in Africa hold that belief. No, that's not how teaching and science work. That is essentially what you are asking the teacher to do.

I do. Tax their fucking churches, eliminate "personage" exemption and remove the statue of limitations on sex crimes. If you want spew bullshit, I want fair competition.

The baker that makes a religion based choice NOT to bake a cake for a same sex couple that is being married. He has his right to refuse sevice denied by the government? Bake the cake or suffer the consequences. What of the states that allow concealed carry and a business posts a sign saying "No Guns". What is the difference? Are they not denying the right of another? I would just go to another business and let them know they are losing my business, but I respect their right to do so.

I vote that we get everyone out of Iraq and Afghanistan yesterday. I vote that we stay out of Syria and stop flying drone's over other countries. Close Gitmo and get out of the detainee business.

I also vote that we stop giving any foreign aid to any country. Get out of Korea. Get out of Africa. Get out of Germany. Spend the money saved on reducing debt.

George and Dick should be tried for lying to everyone, but especially to Byron. Summary execution by firing squad.

Lets leave George and Dick out of it. Learn from it, don't repeat but I do not think that trying past heads of state leads to any good results other than instability like it does in South American. Let George and Dick be, but teach honest history that shows they knew what they were doing when they dragged us into that war.

Completely OVER THE LINE and OUT OF LINE ANDY.

Except that it's not. It creeps back into the public school curriculum over and over again. It has to be litigated over and over again. It's turning entire generation of Americans into idiots when the largest text book consumer in the union, TX, continues to edit science text books to include religious bias. There is enough time on Sunday to plug children's brains with bullshit. Let's stick to science Monday-Friday. We keep on down this path and the Chinese and Koreans will simply destroy us and our ability to compete in globalized workforce.

Who is intruding in your bedroom and telling you who you can and cannot have sex with?

Go down the Republican list? Half of the Republican state legislatures are still trying to overturn Lawrence v. Texas and re-criminalize gay sex, at least according to the party platforms. Most southern and midwestern states have not repealed anti-sodomy statutes even though they are blatantly unconstitutional, because they want to send a message that government has the right and business to intrude into one's bedroom affairs.

He happens to be right about this one Scott.

State of TX did not so long ago, 2003, Lawrence vs State of TX. Do you really think we've advanced so far in our libetarianism. It was only 2 years ago when the attorney general of Virigina tried to outlaw blowjobs in the state, mind you, and not just between homos. No head for anyone. I'm sure this was the most pressing issue Virginia was facing at the time.
