320KPH Posted January 12, 2014 Report Posted January 12, 2014 HI All I have some missing fasteners and I need to order them. I was wondering if someone knows the proper terms. For a 1980's J model, I require: Cowl to Body "dish" washers (with the phillips head screw) (at the firewall) Small half turn fasteners for the Cowl to Cowl joint Three Piece "Dzuz" type fastener set with the button head phillips screw (1/2 turn) and if anyone has the part number for the A3B6D CHT sender I would appreciate that too! thanks 320 Quote

spaz Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 cowl fasteners are camloc 27S3-4 (qty 12) and 27S3-7(qty 2) if you want stainless add an S at the end. Quote
OR75 Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 here is a link to Mil-spec website they offer the fasteners with a wider collar which can be useful if the holes in your cowling have eroded a bit. the tricky part will be to find the right length ( dash number) so that the fasteners are flush with the cowling when locked in. if you use the 100 CSK , you will need a longer length ( higher dash). It may be a trial and error exercise. ideally , you would have one of each -4 -5 -6 -7 and see how many of each you need. http://www.milspecproducts.com/26002700C-Spec.htm 1 Quote
jetdriven Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 The MIlspec 2700 fasteners are the equivalent fastener for the factory fasteners. If the holes get wallowed out, the 2800 is the same but it has a 1/2" wide washer made onto it which will buy you some time. The -4s are standard length. The two rear holes on the cowl parting line take a -7 The fasterner on the side fuselage panel in a Southco 100 Quote

Hank Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 I measured all of the screws one annual and ordered 100 of each from Spruce, including the dish washers. I was cheap and only got a few of the sheet metal clips for the wing panels (those things are expensive!) I also added teflon washers under the screws, since they were cutting into the paint. I replace a few screws every annual, messed up head, too tight, hard to turn, etc. Quote
PTK Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 When I got the airplane painted the shop replaced with all new ss hardware. They also put in teflon washers where applicable to protect paint. It doesn't look like they're that many when replacing one or two, but there sure is a lot of screws and fasteners! Quote
DonMuncy Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 Tell me about the Teflon washers. Do they fit the camlocks, or only screws. Are they tapered for countersunk screws. Are they from Spruce. Quote

PTK Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 You're right Mooneymite! I think they are nylon washers actually. I don't think they're teflon. They are same diameter as the screw-head so they don't stick out. Quote
Hank Posted January 13, 2014 Report Posted January 13, 2014 That looks like them, about 2 cents each. Get a bag of 100 each #8
when ordering screws. They're a pain putting on the little piece covering the gap between fuse and tail, though. Quote
