Well - Bad news...the plane is a total loss!  Between engine cost, prop, paint, skins, etc - it exceeds the hull value minus the salvage value.  So I am without a plane. - What now???

 

I'm not sure I want to buy another plane right now!  It seems so many planes have been sitting around, not flying or people are in denial that values have come down........I was wondering if there is anyone out there who is under-utilizing their plane and would take on a partner?  Anyone know of anyone in the MD/DE area.  I guess KILG, KEVY, 2W6......

 

I checked AOPA and that was a waste of time.  I figure I would be a good partner, I fly 4-6 times a month.  ATP/CFII so insurance would probably come down.....

 

Any ideas???  This 3 hour drive to work is killing me!!!!

Sorry to hear this.  You have my condolences.  Finding an acceptable replacement at the right price in the right condition is a bear for sure.

I'm so sorry they totalled the plane - you had a very nice F.  It was good chatting with you last week. 

 

Share wise, you may have a chance at two aircraft.  Both J's.  Once is based at GAI and one at FDK.  The GAI bird may have a "deal" to be based elsewhere as the pilot has another airplane as well.  The one at FDK has been underutilized the past year (the owner knows it) but may be a posibility.  I'll PM you details about both.  One is a regular contributor on the board and probably already knows I'm talking about him.

 

Last but not least, for the 3 hours, you may want to take a look at the E model we chatted about that Allan has fixed up - Allan, is it still available?  That could serve as the transportation you need until you work something out.  We have a lot of Moony's on the east coast, someone may want to have a non equity partner for a while.  I also hope you're able to move forward with finding your plane for the next 10-15 years - if not now, soon.

How bad is the damage?  You might consider buying the salvage and fixing it...I doubt anything will be damaged inside the engine, even though you have to go through the TDI it might not be awful.  I haven't seen pics of the airframe damage, but I can't imagine it being fatal to the plane.  If you don't fix it, someone else likely will and put the plane back on the market within a year.

That is a good point - you may want to make the call to the guys at Freeway, W00, 301-262-6544 and ask to speak with Tommy or Bruce to expalin to them your situation.  They'd drive right over or fly over to take a look if it's still at FME.

I can discuss a partnership, but I actually just came out of three eye surgeries with 20/15 vision, so I am likely to restore normal flying hours and would likely not do a partnership...at least now. Going tomorrow early in the a-m. Should be windy and brisk. PM me if you want to go Mike.

 

Also Seth, what about Chuck Swim's ownership group in N57663? This is a nice plane. I have logged 40 hours in it. It is a nicely equipped, financially well-backed, 1984 201, based FDK also. It was a lease back at KGAI for a 5 year run, so a lot of people have flown it and can vouch for its integrity.

Glad to hear you have eagle eyes again, John!  I bet you're itchin' to get back at it now.  If you wanna fly west about 7 hours next weekend we can give you directions to a party!   :D

Wow! When I saw your pictures I thought everything was going to be okay. If you don't mind me asking, how far apart were the repair costs and your hull insurance? This is one of my big worries with the investments I made to my plane.

If you can buy back the airplane and they guys at freeway can get it over there, they may be able to repair your F even though the insurance company says it's a total loss.  However, then you'd have damage history on the airplane.  You have a very sweet panal however on the F - it may be worth saving.
