See what bulb you need. I've got a whole baggy full of bulbs that were removed from my panel upgrade. Kick a little postage at me and I'll send you several of whatever you need. They are just in my "bag of whatever" leftovers. -Tom

I was reading through the replies on this and then thought about my brother. He and his family live in Orlando, but his middle son is a freshman at University of Hawaii. What a visit by Mooney that would be... 28 hrs, 4036 miles, 330 gal.. accordingto FF. lol.. His oldest is son attends Auburn, a little closer.. I now am hearing the Hawaii son is getting homesick, so University of Florida is looking like a transfer possibility next year. -Tom

When people talk about taking a vacation or trip I automatically calculate in Mooney time and not driving time..We've all gotten spoiled and soft..Anything longer than an hour and half drive is too long and I'm already thinking nope..not going unless there is a convenient airport nearby. -Tom

Clive, The install took less than a day. Pretty straight forward. Cost wise it was mixed in with other upgrades. The unit cost was about $1900. I had just written them a big check for panel upgrade and this was a last minute oversight on their part, I needed it since all my vacuum equipment had been removed and it was something that was not planned for at the beginning.. Retail was about $2100, the shop said their cost was about 75% of retail, so he charged me the $1900. He did the install at no charge since it was their oversight ( if they volunteered to install for free you know it's not a big deal)..avionics shops don't do anything for free..lol -Tom

Works as advertised..Had mine a few weeks now. Panel is pretty well done. I've replaced the 796 with a 560 since this picture. The G5 works well..I actually catch myself scanning it much more than I thought I would. Since it's mounted front and center and the simplicity of it I guess it's only natural to take notice often. -Tom

I remember the unlock code has been discussed before...do you recall how much it is? -Tom

AXP340 install quote- does this look right?
TWinter replied to M016576's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
When you say a " Mooney " to some shops you suddenly see the installer/owner cringe. My shop just finished some major work and he now swears that he will never flat rate quote another big Mooney job. He said if someone paid double what I paid he would still have to think about. Something about small spaces and tight places -Tom -
They just finished with the Aspens. I have GDL88, but no weather on my Aspens. Just The 750 as GDL 88 weather. I'm sure they will know how much room if any is left. I'll give them a shout and see what they have to say about it. I think Chris has one hooked up to his Aspens and seems to like it. Thanks, -Tom
-
Don, Any idea on the # labor hours to install this on Aspen? -Tom

This is so true. I rarely post on POA anymore. So many expert opinions and drama. -Tom

Wow..This all started with a little poke with a little jab at us Mooney drivers. Now we've turned into rules, regs, blah, blah...and should we say " Good morning", I always do and when I leave freq I also say, " Thanks for the help ". PTK, good tongue bite..The Bo guy is probably still thinking, " Gee, I wonder if I sounded like a pompous ass?, the Mooney guy did not even reply". Sometimes the best reply is the one not said I think your reply of no reply was the best reply..lol -Tom

I believe they are. I'll have to look at the work order sheet and see what they are labeled as and manufacturer. The ones on the top left are for A/P and Elect Trim. They are different than a regular toggle. You have to pull out slightly then flip up or down. The others are traditional up/down toggle motion and don't require pulling out, just flip up/down..again, don't know if these are breaker type or not, but I'll check the paperwork and post whatever brand and part # they are. -Tom
-
Toggle breaker type. I'm not sure what the tech term is? If you zoom in you can see them installed. -Tom

I have a few items leftover from my panel upgrade. Someone might need these now or later. I really have no idea of value on these Klixon Rockers. I searched the forum and I did see there were some that sold a while back for $45. Those looked better than mine so I'm thinking $30 each shipped on mine? Breakers are all sold.. I have a EGT gauge left. Make a reasonable offer.. -Tom

One set sold.. I have the black set left. The black set has a pilots headrest. -Tom -
Small distraction claims another airplane...
TWinter replied to Guitarmaster's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Good reasoning to have the G5 or similar. Separate and independent back-up. Would not compensate for the pilots distraction, but another tool in the toolbox. -Tom -
Find one already close to what you want as far as avionics..As you can see many of us have bought and upgraded over the years.. Nice, but painful in the pocket. Those of us that have bought and later upgraded avionics know we will forever be upside down as far as what we've spent and what the plane is worth.. I've SO over invested in my E and will NEVER come close to getting what I've spent, but I knew that going into the upgrades...but hey, it's a keeper. -Tom

I have two sets of Sheepskin seat covers I recently picked up (pilot/co-pilot only) No rears. I already had a set and bought these as extras..Looked like maybe an order someone bailed on so I got a good deal on both. I was going to keep a extra set, but decided I'll keep the ones I've been using already, call me superstitious. I believe they are Rocky Mountain brand, but will double check when I get home tonight. Looking at $325 a set plus shipping. These are new. One set is ivory color and the other is black. One set has a headrest cover (black one I think). I compared them size wise to the ones I custom ordered for my E and they look nearly the same. Years ago I bought a set from a forum member who had some from an Ovation. Still worked fine in my E. They were not really my first choice of color so later I ordered a new set in a different color, I could not tell much of a difference in fit. I'm not sure how scientific these vendors get with measurements, they are all pretty close to me. The Rocky Mountain site shows the same part # for most of the Mooney covers. These are Aerosheep Covers. Anyway, I get a few pics up later, just thought I would toss a feeler out there for anyone that has been looking. PM for details. PP or check is good if someone wants them. I'll list a few days here then on the auction sites. -Tom
-
Took like 6 weeks to get here. I thought it was a scam and started a PP dispute.. Guess I'll have to cancel it..lol I got a kick out of them and just bought them for fun..I'll wear them to fly-ins. Should make for good conversation..
-
Thought I'd revisit an old thread... Just got my new flying shoes in today...straight from China. lol At this point in life I don't really care what the young guns say are cool..these ARE friggin cool My office manager did ask that I not wear them at work..umm, she trying to tell me something? -Tom

I felt good with it yesterday, but was using just very basic functions. All depends on how much seat time I get in, but I would say 4-6 months before I feel as comfortable as I did with the standard six pack and at the point I was in IFR start up. Some might think that sound like a long time, but before I made the change I was just starting instrument work with my regular six pack panel and right now I'm just using basic VFR functions. To start to implement the transfering flight plans, approaches using the A/P etc..Maybe 4-6 months will get me close to where I was prior in the instrument phase of training. Right now it's pretty much brain overload trying to work through the several Aspen screen pages in conjunction w/ GTN750, STec and JPI. I try to fly once a week for a hour or two at a time, doesn't always happen that way, but that's what I try to do. -Tom

Since I could not make it to the Mooney lunch or homecoming I made sure I finally had at least few hours late this afternoon to give the new avionics a try and get the new compass installed..I was very pleased with all of it. Probably going to remove the portable 796 and just use IPad if I need further redundancy. All in all very pleased with how it all works together. I'm still very much a novice with all of it so far, but hope to learn quickly. Quick in flight picture. -Tom

Head count for Cullman Alabama Mooney lunch 10/22/16
TWinter replied to Tony Armour's topic in General Mooney Talk
I'm having some issues trying to get things lined up on my end as far as attending... If anyone can help get Neil to the lunch from the Memphis area it would be great.. I'm having some minor issues getting away so I can't give a solid 100% on me being able to attend. I know he's really hoping to pick his plane up. I won't be able to give a firm commitment until later today or early tomorrow. -Tom
