  1. I have one that covers from '62 C to '67 F and it lists the serial #'s of all it covers.
  2. I have a set of scales that I use to corner balance my racecars so I hauled them down to the hangar and weighed my naked Mooney today. I truly wish I had weighed it before I stripped the paint off. It ended up 19.9 lbs lighter than what the various calculations have been done over the years as equipment was added/subtracted. Here are the weights (full of fuel - 54.4 gals): Nose: 548 lbs Left wing: 675 lbs Right wing: 684 lbs Total weight: 1,907 lbs My question is - how can I convert those to usable #'s for a W&B datum or should I just subtract 19.9 lbs from my empty weight and leave it alone?
  3. I know there is money in aviation... 'cause I keep putting it there!
  4. Count me in that discussion! I'd love to help!
  5. Don't be afraid of the tailfeathers, remember they lift the tail as soon as enough air is flowing over them. I have a 360* video and when you focus on the tailfeathers you'll see they fluctuate quite a bit in the air, so they must be pretty stout to to be able to take that kind of abuse.
  6. + 1 for H&H - They can have you in & out quickly, probably takes longer to pay the bill than do the inspection.
  7. No worries, my daily driver is a '89 BMW 325iC... bought it at a junkyard, it was going to be crushed. Fun little ongoing reliable project, like my Mooney.
  8. My biggest regret is not weighing it before and after. There were 3 complete paint schemes on her.
  9. It is actually less work than you would think, but I do keep it in a hangar. I polish it every two years or so when it starts to get dull and it takes me 3-5 hrs to polish the whole thing. I do feel like the Karate Kid though when I am done polishing her!
  10. Took our Mooney to Pik-n-Pig @ BQ1 today! Showed off our Mooniac T-Shirt and hat.
  11. The ceilings were a little low this morning...
  12. I used to have a sailboat but couldn't find enough time to enjoy it! Someone once told me - "I know there's money in airplanes, boats and autos because I keep putting it there!"
  13. I have driven so many different cars and motorcycles over the years it's hard to pick just one. But these two come close - 650+ hp Red '79 Mustang and my "Barcalounger on Wheels" '08 Ultra Glide Classic - both give me a thrill like my Mooney...(and my Hatz)
  14. Yes, it's called a "ghettocet" - it's a poor mans copy of an Exocet which is a popular Lotus 7 kit. They are becoming very popular.
  15. Next time you cut one up I'd love to come help. I have cut a few cars up over the years for various reasons, would love to cut a Mooney up...
  16. This one was at a local private airstrip - Wilgrove (8A6) - contacted the owner, he thinks it's still worth $60k and plans to put it back together when his business picks back up...
  17. I did a few touch and go's today and found the following with my '62 C - #1 is my normal routine. The runway is 5500 ft long, 3 mph winds, 29.93 hg, 608ft msl. 1) Rotate at 60mph, gear up at 80mph, Flaps up at 100ft agl~90mph - at 1000ft agl by the end of the runway 2) Rotate at 60mph, Press brakes, gear up at 80mph, Flaps up at 100ft agl~90mph - no noticeable difference from #1 3) Rotate at 60mph, Flaps up at 100ft altitude ~80mph, gear up at ~105mph when no more usable runway - much harder to get the gear up and only 700 ft agl by the end of the runway 4) Rotate at 60mph, Flaps up at 100ft altitude ~80mph, Press brakes, gear up at ~105mph when no more usable runway - much harder to get the gear up, no difference from #3 I repeated each one to make sure it wasn't an anomaly. I think the wheels had already stopped in #4 since it was 3500 ft of the runway before I was high enough to not be able to use any of the leftover runway. I think I might start tapping the brakes to keep the wheel wells cleaner, but it was clear that getting the gear and flaps up early improved the climb rate, and as they say, altitude is precious when the engine quits.
  18. I replaced my tired old stock starter on my '62 C with a new B&C and can simply say WOW! I think I can taxi with the starter!
  19. My A&P said to get the B&C - Skytec's don't seem to last as long.
  20. Thanks, I went down and counted teeth today, it seems I have a 122 tooth flywheel - interesting since every place I checked for a starter indicated that I was supposed to have a 149 tooth flywheel. My '62 Mooney is one of the early C models though, I am glad I checked!
  21. Which B&C did you get? I like the idea of no bushings. My starter is getting slower too and trying to be proactive.
  22. I used to race Mustangs 20+ years ago and when my wife was setting up the LLC for racing she asked me "what name?" - that exact moment a Rolling Stones song came on the radio and it has stuck ever since. FWIW - you can probably google WildHorsesRacing and usually find all about me. If not, just ask, I have nothing to hide.
  23. Privacy is for those who are paranoid and want a false sense of security. Everything about you and your life is available out there somewhere. If someone wants to find out all about you they will. George Orwell's 1984 is alive and well, but Big Brother's name is Google. My mantra, live your life to the fullest, worry only about your health and enjoy what little time we have on this giant blue marble.
  24. The pure darkness of the totality is truly hard to describe, we have already put the next eclipse on our bucketlist! This was taken by a friend with flash just to be able to see us. There were over 500 planes at Triple Tree Aerodrome in SC.
  25. Believe it or not I have only polished it twice in two years, once when we first stripped it and again last week. Took ~20 hrs to repolish but what a difference it makes. I am seriously considering polishing for 2 hrs every 3 mos to keep it shiny. Here is a good picture of the before (lower), during (middle) and after (upper) - even when it fades it's still shiny but not so much silver as a dull yellowish shiny... I treat it as my "Karate Kid" workout - I come home with Popeye arms and my heart pumping from the exercise.
