True, but you could use the lift tables for other things. Whereas the the airplanes jacks only have one purpose.

https://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lbs-capacity-hydraulic-table-cart-69148.html I have always wondered if you could use a pair of these to lift the wings. I had thought a pair of special jack stands modified to use the Mooney jack points could be an easy way to jack the plane and you could use the lift platforms for other projects.

It's always fun to fly young eagles, the smiles afterwards is always worth the effort!

I am doing the same thing, looking at the map of places that will require ADS-B in 2020 I realized that it probably won't affect my flying very much to not have one until they become cheaper.

It was raining in Denton, NC today... It was fun dodging showers for my short flight to lunch today.

20C sitting a while
Wildhorsesracing replied to airbusflyboy's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
A local flight school replaced the engine in their trainer because it had reached TBO. The plane flew fine and the engine wasn't making metal. The "factory reman" engine was a nightmare and they lost a year while they worked the bugs out of a "new" engine that wasn't quite the same as what the plane came with but the engine manufacturer had made "improvements". Every engine is a gamble, always be vigilant with your pre-flight and go fly anyway. -

20C sitting a while
Wildhorsesracing replied to airbusflyboy's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
WOW! Deja Vu all over again! I bought the exact twin of that aircraft 6 yrs and 175 hrs ago! Mine was ~3500 hrs, ~900 SMOH and had been sitting in an enclosed hangar for 10 yrs after the owner passed and the heirs fought over how much to sell it for. It has been a wonderful workhorse ever since. I bought it thinking I'd use it for what I needed and then throw it away or sell what is left. I have always approached it as a "disposable airplane", kind of like the same philosophy of a new car purchase. I knew it could get expensive but I also made sure the PPI was thorough so there would be no surprises. FYI - My first annual was ~5 AMU but annuals ever since have been 1 AMU. -

Mine was the same way, 165 hrs later she still runs smooth as silk, get a good oil analysis for the 1st couple of oil changes and only worry if it starts making metal. -

I bought mine in the same exact condition 6 yrs ago, after an extensive $5k annual it was airworthy and has been a diamond in the rough ever since. You can always add stuff later and do all of the upgrades when you have time and funds. And just think, the longer you wait for the upgrades the more bang for your $ you'll get. Just a few years ago ADS-B systems were over $20k each and now they are under $5k - so the longer you wait the more features you'll get for the same money. So why pay for an airplane that has yesterday's technology? -
Trying to save Horace a Williams Airport
Wildhorsesracing replied to mccdeuce's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
It is a sad story, they have been planning to close it and choking the airport off ever since my daughter attended UNC 10 yrs ago. It was very convenient to shuttle her back and forth to campus. FWIW: The runway was in bad shape 10 yrs ago, I can imagine how bad it has become. -

Dumb question: how do you replace air filter?
Wildhorsesracing replied to BigD's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
You can "squish" the new foam and slide it back in, the wire frame is pretty sturdy. -
Dumb question: how do you replace air filter?
Wildhorsesracing replied to BigD's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Mine has a pin at the top, pull the pin, move the wire frame out a little and yank the foam out. It doesn't take much space to slide the filter out and the new one back in. -
I'd be interested as well, how much more speed, climb, etc.?

Does this gear door look normal?
Wildhorsesracing replied to BigD's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I could have my gear up & down 5 times in the time that took... #JBarRules -
I made mine last year and used them for my 2017 annual. I used the Harbor Freight jacks, C-Channel, welded them together and 3/4" conduit to make the uprights. If you look closely you'll see the tops drilled to accept the Mooney jack points. My A&P has a prop yoke jack that I used to hold the front up, they worked good and I plan to use them next week when I do my 2018 annual...

What sound does an airplane make when it bounces a landing? Boeing!

Best places for a long weekend or extended stay?
Wildhorsesracing replied to NJMac's topic in General Mooney Talk
I have spent a lot of time in Edenton and can vouch it is a very charming town and awesome B&B's. There is an excellent bistro downtown called Nothing Fancy Cafe. Avoid Asheville unless you like paying ridiculous ramp fees. -
Best places for a long weekend or extended stay?
Wildhorsesracing replied to NJMac's topic in General Mooney Talk
This time of year my wife and I escape to Southport, NC (KSUT), Ocean Isle, NC (60J) or North Myrtle SC (KCRE) - they are quiet and many of the popular places are still open but fairly empty. They refer to it as "snowbird season" when everyone from the far north comes down for months at a time to escape winter. -
Your Favorite Ride with your Favorite Plane

It's probably because they have become a very popular race car - this was two weeks ago at Road Atlanta: -
Your Favorite Ride with your Favorite Plane
Wildhorsesracing replied to Stephen's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I have raced in an E30 a few times over the years, they are a lot of fun to drive. I even built one ten(10) years ago so that my teenage daughters could get their racing license in it. They were featured in an article in Roundel magazine with the car. As a street car they excellent but very limited on space for back seat passengers and luggage, kind of like a Mooney M20C! -
M20c rear window replacement
Wildhorsesracing replied to M20Bdriver's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I replaced mine last year during it's annual because they were pretty hazy. No drilling needed for the side windows, just the windshield. My A&P used Bostik 1100 FS for a sealant, it was easy to apply and easy to clean up afterwards. You will need to trim the windows to fit but it's easy to do with a file, leave some room around the edges for expansion. I got mine from LP Aero, great quality and I opted for the clear ones. -
