  1. Darn !!!! No charlie weights in my bird.
  2. Okay, I have an MT Prop on my 231 and could not be happier with it. However, what are Charlie weights? How much weight do they take off? And how do I find out if I can remove them? Thanks in advance, W
  3. Well I am pretty quick to walk away when someone puts up an image of stubborness and does not realize how to negotiate with potential buyers. Maybe I am getting old but I do not care to work hard to give someone my business. If there are that many buyers for the latest greatest 10 thousand dollar box, widget, whatever then I need to give them five years to saturate the market and then buy when they drop the price.
  4. I am going to make everyone jealous here. My 78 231 came to me two years ago with an original panel. The fanciest item was the KNS-80 which i LOVE flying with. This week I am going to pick up our baby from the avionics shop with GMA-340, GNS-480, GTX-327 installed for all under 12,000. This is thanks to the power of finding the right sellers on Barnstormers and Ebay. And MOST IMPORTANTLY, the right avionics shop that is happy to work with your client provided equipment. I honestly could not believe the attitudes I ran into when talking to sales droids at the big avionics shops. This is our price, take it or leave it was what I got from GCA and Sarasota. And from what I understand, these shops are making an nice mark up on both the equipment and the installs. It pays to KNOW what you want and not give in to what the vendor wants for his convinence.
  5. I hate it when so called "Professionals" bash their peers like that.
  6. I drive around in an EFIS equipped jet at work. I like keeping my scan in tune on the old six pack instruments in my Mooney.
  7. Interesting to see the word "Inexpensive" associated with $3500 dollars.
  8. I talked to Century yesterday regarding my Century 41 components that are in for overhaul. Based on the high price and crappy service I would not spend another single dime on future purchases from Century. They SUCK. Sorry but thats my honest opinion based on my real world experience. Cheers, W
  9. I considered Western Skyways, Zephyr, Certified Engines in Miami, and other one in Orlando whose name escapes me. We chose JB for the following reasons: 1. Competitive price 2. Willingness to come out and pick up the engine at my IA's shop 3. Verbal agreement to push us ahead in the schedule if he could And most impressive 4. Willingness to come back to my IA's shop and set up the fuel system when the engine is installed. I have been dealing with Jimmy Brod Jr. I expect delivery this week. So lets keep our fingers crossed :-) Cheers, W
  10. I am currently going thru a rebuild of our 231's engine at JB Engine Service in Sebring, FL. I will be happy to report our experience in detail when they finish assembly and deliver. Regards, W
  11. I am sorry to say that I could not make the SGJ fly in. And it would have been my first. Our 231 is still in annual down in Titusville. Having found two cylinders with issues I decided to bite the bullet and opt for an overhaul. Hopefully we will make Lakeland in September. Cheers, Walt
  12. One thing I love about my KNS 80 is that it takes a few more processes in my brain to create a direct to point and impliment it. I like that challenge versus the direct to button on a GPS.
  13. The tire did its job. So retire it and buy a new set. You will be safer with fresh rubber protecting your aircraft and your life.
  14. Interested in the 252 prop as it will be legal for my 231.
  15. Good Morning, I am currently seeking the following control rod: 730048-501 Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Walt
  16. Jerry told me that the previous owner, a Chinease guy, bought it and flew it three times. He forgot the gear on the third flight, apparently a training flight. He says that the prop was replaced, a prop strike insp was done and the belly pan was replaced. He also told me that he had this aircraft sold to someone, who handed him 10,000 dollars to do the repaint as part of his sale. He had the repaint done and the client never came back for the aircraft. It DOES smell fishy to me.
  17. It is not merely an opinion. It is the truth. And it is not just with pilots. Service providers look at your house, your car, your gated neighborhood, your job and make an assessment on how much they can extract from the "Cash Cow". And the stupid ones make it obvious as they are checking you out. The marine industry is especially bad about this.
  18. It is bad karma on YOU to speak poorly of other people. Be it deserved or not. My two cents, W
  19. I would like to get in touch with Bob Meier if anyone knows how. Thanks in advance, Walt
  20. While researching a 231 to 252 upgrade, we find that they are the ones that own the STC. Well after about a week of calling both their office and the owners cell phone I can not get a call back from them. Is the Mod Squad out of business or does anyone know of their status??
  21. Barry it is. Thanks guys :-)
  22. While going through our annual on our 231 the decision has been made to replace the engine mounts. I find a TREMENDOUS price difference between these two vendors. Does anyone have any reason why I should pay 3 times the price for a Lord Mount versus Barry. Thank you in advance, W
  23. Hello All, I wanted to ask if there is an online source for downloading a copy of the maintenance manual. Someone sent me a copy on CD several years ago and I can not seem to find it in my book stacks. Thank you in advance, Walt
  24. I recently got a quote from SA on installing our GNS 480 and a GMA 340. The sticker shock has yet to wear off.
  25. "into a debate with this Bonanza instructor bigot" It is not worth anyones time to debate with an idiot. At best you win and educate a moron for a moment. The next moment his limited mental abilities move right back to his favorite position after you leave. Both airplanes are beautiful works of art and engineering in their own rite. And we all know that in this forum. Ignore the ignorant who do not.
