  1. If it's really leaking out the valve stem you can probably change the valve in the stem and air it up. Valves are pretty standard and can be had at any tire shop for something close to free. The tool is simple and can be had at the same tire shop or any bicycle shop.
  2. I've wondered how I could swing the gear if I had shoulder problems. Maybe if all is just right it would work for you but I think I would look for an electric gear plane. However, you might try it with someone as a copilot that can swing the gear for you and see if the motions bother your arm? Maybe you won't use those particular muscles?
  3. Those are nice but just too big for the places we end up going. Does it have a hangar on the back? Haha
  4. Kris, what convinced my wife it was a great idea was the bed bug problems at motels. This way she sleeps in her own bed every night we travel. She also ended up joining "Sisters on the fly". Look up that site and show it to your wife. We got my daughter in Denver hooked also. She and her husband have a photo booth business out there called "Picture Me Camping". We restored a 1956 Leisure Home made into a photo booth. They do wedding and stuff, even did a wedding for one of the Denver Broncos.
  5. Ok Kris, here's a few of the outside. I know it's not a Mooney but it is a toy.
  6. What's that mean?
  7. I think it's about 10 ft on the inside. We gutted the inside and I let my wife do whatever she wanted with the inside. She did a pretty nice job in there. If I had photos available I'd show the inside but we are on the road crossing or about to start driving across Kansas.
  8. We're doing almost the same thing right now but a little more on the primitive side. We are in Denver now but headed back home to Cincinnati this afternoon. Our traveling accommodation is a 1958 14ft Comet we resorted a few years ago.
  9. Kris, thanks for that info. That will have to wait awhile. I think the avionics will have to happen first. It appears I've bought an older but nice clean 201. Just trying to figure out how to spend a little more money without feeling guilty.
  10. Kris, what was the cost for that addition?
  11. A lot have mentioned the 430 and 530 as good equipment and I agree but they are very expensive and as others have mentioned they are also very old. Looking at the Avidyne equipment it does appear to be a better choice to buy new versus old especially with the moderate difference in the price. The market on 430 and 530's just seem too expensive for basically old avionics. The Garmin name does give one a sense of security as far as dependability though.
  12. I had the same problem. It was evidently a weak spark on one plug. Right after taking off and while in the pattern I noticed the same high exhaust temp but relatively cool cylinder. I returned to the ground and pulled and cleaned both plugs. I started aggressively leaning the mixture immediately after start up and never had the problem again.
  13. Any additions needed to couple to the gps?
  14. Can the IIB be updated to add alt hold? The plane I'm looking at has manual trim.
  15. The Avidyne looks like a good value. Does a 430 do more or less? What's the difference other than manufacturer?
  16. Oh...I guess I don't need that yet. A teacher once told me there is no such thing as a stupid question. Thanks!
  17. Can this auto pilot be coupled to a Garmin or other Gps system? What is the difference between a Century II and a IIB?
  18. Aspen 1000 appear to be priced comparatively with the Garmin 430. Is the Aspen reliable?
  19. Is the Avidyne similar to the 430? Older Avidynes are very reasonable on eBay. Would the new Avidyne take care of future ADSB requirements or are you referring to two seperate inits?
  20. Have you ever worked with one that was too large? Haha
  21. VFR for now. May end up IFR.
  22. Hope you still like it. See you in a week or so. nels
  23. If you bought a plane with a virgin panel with nothing in it later than 1980, how would you spend an available $15k trying to bring it into today's world. Assume time is on your side to scope out the best deals on mostly used equipment. Don't forget to include an install price. Assume the plane has autopilot. Mission is cross country flying. I'm sure many have gone through this drill before with varying budgets so I thought I'd throw it out and see what others come up with.
  24. After landing, did you sump the tank looking for water?
