  1. I do not know your time and experience, but if you have to ask this question, you certainly should not be doing it. Even if you were, you certaily should not be doing it at anything near full power. I learned to fly in Portland Oregon where on winter days the ceiling was 3000, drizzle and haze. Even in a 152 or 172 where the speeds are slowerI never felt comfortable for even short distances, let alone 100nm, 1500 above the ground and 1500 below the clouds. Conditions can change quickly leaving you no out. The terrain elevation certainly will change over 100nm, and there is too many risks of cell twos, hills, being in IMC when not rated (which has a 20 sec average time before disorientation). I assume you are doing this because you are not IFR rated. Additionally, if there is this kind of weather, you may be in a place like the Pacific NW where there can be risks of icing in the clouds as well. At Mooney speeds, turn radius is larger leading me to think you do not have a good enough sense of maneuverability. Think of mountain flying in a canyon. You can just as easily get unexpectedly cornered in the scenario you describe. My 2 cents is - DON'T DO IT.
  2. I started putting in a SWTA STD'd panel, then decided to do the extra work and put in a truely modern Ovation style panel. The installation with the instrument panel bow is much cleaner but you have to decide how much you want to get into it. You can see some pictures posted in my Gallery. I can help with either versions as I went through the decision process, started one and then changed to what I have now which is a much better installation. John Breda
  3. I am interested as well, but I also work weekends. It would be good to schedule a month or two in advance so I, and anyone else in the same situation, can schedule accordingly. John Breda
  4. I would like to a a form on this site which is dedicated to mainenance. What I imagine is a site where an owner can start a thread (chapter in the site) listing the name of the mechanic or facility and he and others can list their experiences under the shop/mechanic heading. The owners should be factual and objective in their experiences, listing what was done correctly or incorrectly. Opinions are probably OK but should be based on facts. The posting of facts should let the reader draw his/her own conclusions. I the end, we would have a listing of facilities under which would be a cross-section of reported experiences which owners felt were important enough to post. Smaller local shops that do excellent work could earn the recognition they deserve, and the lesser shops would also gain the reputation their history warrants. The national shops that we know of most likely would continue in the reputation they have already earned. Ho can we set something like this up? Any software people here that can help?
  5. I have two time shares I would like to offer to the Mooney community. One is at Whistler and is a floating week during the ski season (through week 15) - two bedroom unit located only yards from the base of the Whistler Gondola ar Creekside. The other is a 3 bedroom unit at Club Regina, (Associated with the Westin Hotel) Los Cabos Mexico. It is a floating week with the exception of major holiday weeks. Both are $950.00 for the week (7 nights) Please e-mail me if interested to johnabreda@yahoo.com Thanks, John Breda
