  1. The engine is past TBO. Lycoming recommends 2000 hours or 12 years whichever comes first. It will likely get a few hundred hours before it start making metal as the cam or lifters go bad from corrosion. You gotta accept it as a run out engine and take any time you get on it as a bonus. ”All Lycoming Engines have a recommended calendar overhaul of 12 years regardless of the time on the engine. The recommended time to overhaul is important for a couple of reasons: engines that operate infrequently often have a much higher chance of corrosion forming on parts exposed to the environment, and the engine uses composite gaskets and rubber hoses that degrade over time and could affect the reliability of your engine.” https://www.lycoming.com/sites/default/files/SI1009BE TBO Schedule.pdf
  2. You also have to mention how long ago the overhaul was done. If the engine is high time and old, it needs an overhaul more badly than high time but recently overhauled.
  3. Good idea. Get your bird before you get married or have kids or you’ll end up like a bunch of the guys on here and not get your plane for a long time. Lucky I did it that way so my wife knows there’s no such thing as “it’s me or the plane!”
  4. When Byron @jetdrivengets off his lazy ass and finishes my annual!
  5. Linden, White Plains, Farmingdale, or Caldwell are really you’re only options for parking. Personally, I would encourage you to learn to fly first and then worry about getting a Mooney. If you are honest with yourself, buying an airplane never makes sense (in terms of math), but it can totally make sense if it’s what you want. Go rent some different airplanes, get your complex, do some cross countries. Then, just before you are ready to go for your instrument, get in touch with the Grim Reaper @Alan Fox and see if he has a deal for you. When you get your Mooney you can join us for our NJMP lunch fly ins as well.
  6. It’s a lot easier when you use a Halo instead of those head clamps.
  7. Nice try getting someone to violate Far Part 61.113 or 119.1. That might fly on your Cessna forum, but Mooney pilots ain’t gonna be dumb enough to fall for that trap.
  8. Me neither but who cares which is called which? Both accomplish the plane tracking straight down the runway. That’s why it’s kind of funny they have different names.
  9. Didn’t know you could control each speed brake separately to correct for crosswind.
  10. I do forward slips and side slips in my 201 up to full deflection for 10 years and never seen even the slightest hiccup.
  11. Fuel pressure transducer, no back clutch spring, electric fuel pump....
  12. Shh! Don't let @Alan Fox the Grim Reaper find out!
  13. Didn't look all that flyable to me before either, but what do I know? I fly a Mooney!
  14. 169 knots ground speed may not be an absurd airspeed though. I don’t know the weather conditions but could be a 25 knot tailwind aloft and 20 knots of true airspeed, making it 125 indicated.
  15. If no one wants to ask the obvious, I will. Why the heck did tower have the Key Lime cross the final approach of 17R to line up with 17L? And what happened to see and avoid? On base, Key Lime should have been in a position of good visibility to see the approaching Cirrus from the left seat. Most airports I’ve been to with parallel runways have traffic patterns on each side and keep traffic on the side they are on.
  16. Given that 70-80% of student pilots drop out before ever reaching private pilot, buying any airplane is a bad idea. But especially more airplane than you can handle and an airplane that isn't going to enjoy such a beating. Just my four half pennies.
  17. I think they start by asking for $1000 per landing and then settle for a $0.27 landing fee increase for aircraft like a Mooney.
  18. You can have the complete experience of a ride along with Mr. @Alan Fox without even having to drive out to the airport.
  19. 10 years too late
  20. You mean this one? Our new friend from Flying W doesn't get it though
  21. My prestigious NYC Trifecta achievement award arrived. Thank you Mooneyspace! It didn’t say who it’s from but I can tell that my flights are appreciated. Thank you anonymous donor. Now I can see the weather at all the Trifecta and Grand Slam airports on a moments glance.
  22. Maybe you’re better phrasing how the plane must be returned from prebuy and who pays the put together bills in your buyer agreement. After all you’re holding their deposit.
