  1. Honor system. You don't wanna be the one to piss the pilot off!
  2. Staying awake and hydrated is more important than trying to hold it in. I usually take a leak an hour before landing so that I can plan the approach with a clear mind and not feel rushed. Let everyone else make a run for the bathroom the moment the propeller stops and I can take my time tying down.
  3. Maybe an electric gear conversion before getting rid of them? 157kts in a C is wicked!
  4. Bottle, bag, little john, tube, depends, or land every time? Do you shell out for professional products or use household items (ziplock, gatorade bottle, etc)?
  5. Is that a short body 201?
  6. Yes. And my J takes 100 gallons.
  7. I don’t disagree there’s a lot of nice ones. They’re just much less likely to turn up on the market or they sell for not all that much less than a J when they do. Point is you get what you pay for.
  8. You’re missing a lot. For one thing the panels will be totally different. Most C models will have the cluster panel and lack much avionics, engine monitors, auto pilot, etc. Depends on your mission. If you’re looking to do casual VFR weekend flying for 1-2 people, the C is great. If you intend to be doing a lot of IFR, flying more people, etc you may want a later plane. Age is another factor. You’ll find that C older models are more likely to be run out needing engine overhaul, paint, interior, tank reseal, etc. Many owners discover it’s cheaper to sell the plane and by one the way they want than to refurbish theirs. If you are content with it being an older and likely more worn out plane without upgrades, it’s a superb deal. However you might find that converting the engine, panel, etc to more modern may cost more than getting a plane that already has all that.
  9. Yeah but Mooneyspace felt a thousand pounds lighter…
  10. @Parker_Woodruff are you seeing any relief or reduction rates lately?
  11. It would be more helpful @gsxrpilot if the more unpleasant members would take a refreshing break instead.
  12. Between Covid and Yahoo shutting all groups down, there haven't been any NJ Mooney Pilots Group Fly Ins in a few years. Well, I have news for you, we're back! Probably will start resuming some occasional flyouts in the NJ vicinity area soon. I'm relaunching the list and inviting all prior members back automatically. If you were previously in the group and did not receive the invite or your email changed, let me know. Here is a rare opportunity to join the highly secret by-invitation only fly out group. PM me if you are in casual flying distance of NJ and want to be invited into the group.
  13. Simple individually wrapped sandwiches. Bagels (plain!!!! never seeds!) are a good nibble snack and they last a few days so you can save extras for next flights. Unsalted pistachios in shell are a good way to stay busy and pass time. Pretzels. I alternate between iced tea and Gatorade to stay awake and hydrated. Halo headset makes eating on the fly a lot easier.
  14. Speed makes the biggest difference in headwinds. In calm winds the 201 works out to 27 knots faster (155 vs 128) at top cruising speed. That's 21% faster. In a stiff 40 knot headwind, those extra 27 knots make the Mooney 31% faster. This is especially pronounced when comparing to a skyhawk or earlier cherokee that do about 100 knots in cruise. 1.5x faster without wind but twice as fast in a strong headwind.
  15. Vast majority of J's are 2740GW and 900-1000UL. However, that makes full fuel payload 500-600lbs with 64 gallon tanks.
  16. I wouldn't be surprised if a really clean Archer has a better payload and the Mooney can't do 500 miles with the seats filled either. On the other hand, mine with extended range tanks can do 8-12 hours nonstop no problem. As much as 1400nm. Or circumnavigate Cuba with stops but without refueling.
  17. 145ktas on 9gph in a 201. 155 on about 12. You do the math if that makes it worthwhile for you.
  18. Sounds about right. You’d have to burn another 3-5gph and run it hard to squeeze the remaining 10-20 knots out of it.
  19. Hard to tell from the picture but looks like it already has the modworks fiberglass doors so the rear fairings are removed. Might need to check how the doors are rigged at annual. Any gap in the leading edge let’s air in and it pulls them open even more in flight. To make it quieter supposedly the wheel well liners help but they don’t do anything for speed.
  20. Try flying over 6 hours. By then you can’t feel nothing anywhere!
  21. An African or a European swallow?
  22. That’s just silly, dogs can’t fly! But birds can Luckily birds don’t have this problem and even rejuvenate their hearing.
  23. Did he set some kind of world record?
