  1. Sold on a Mooneyspace poll!
  2. Besides hanging out the window upside down holding a cup? Flip the Gatz Jar tip from the plastic to the metal stick side facing up. Press it up into the gascalator from outside and take a sample. If you really care about sampling the other fuel line too, go inside and flip the fuel selector and repeat.
  3. "Regularly" means daily or about every 3 days at most. Flight school, rental, charter type stuff. Most weekend warriors don't fit the bill for "regularly".
  4. This dilemma comes from putting the cart before the horse. In most cases it’s better to finish the training before buying a plane. But by having the plane first it puts a strong bias toward using what you already paid for. It is hard to choose to not use it and fly the trainer instead.
  5. It was raining airplanes out of the sky that month Sully landed on the Hudson. Just because it’s the topic of the month that gets attention doesn’t make these problems go away when the news finds something else to focus on.
  6. I'm pretty happy with Macs. It's well designed/fit but the durability on it isn't terrific. Price is good.
  7. With all this talk about monkey bar and natural birth techniques for getting in and out of a Mooney, which seat do you find easier to get in/out of? The pilot seat or the passenger seat?
  8. The 201kts was a joke. It’s just ground speed with a tailwind. 170 isn’t a normal cruise speed, just top speed for demonstration. I was doing a break in flight so I stayed at max power for a while. Everything forward. 3200ft, 27.5” MP, 2700RPM, 17.1GPH, 5C OAT, 165 KIAS, 163 KCAS, 169 KTAS. A few more things to check that I got tweaked are mag timing and RPM adjustment. You’d be surprised how much speed you can lose by having timing off a couple degrees and missing 30RPM.
  9. TBM 900 claims top speed of 380mph on 850HP
  10. Composite gear doors, new[er] cowl, remove unused antennas/equipment, door pin mod, gap seals, body work and A pillar smoothing, windshield fairing replacement, repaint, wash, and wax.
  11. He doesn’t want to get my rigging perfect because he’s afraid my 201 might be 201er than his.
  12. No, but @jetdriven might admit my bird’s in better shape
  13. With all the mods/improvements I have done, I can make about 170KTAS (based on ASI which I have found to be fairly accurate) at full power. This isn’t quite full power but nor is it full weight either.
  14. But that’s only 175 knots! I can get pretty close to that any day!
  15. Had to do a double take when I saw this trailer driving down the street in Roanoke. Sure enough, that’s a Mooney! At first I thought it was an Executive but on closer look I’m thinking Chapparal.
  16. I’ve heard that the biggest relief from air sickness is to fly the plane. But if that doesn’t work,
  17. Actually was on Sunday but also pretty breezy. Light chop and occasional turbulence climbing over mountains out of Roanoke. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N4361H/history/20230219/2041Z/KROA/KLDJ
  18. Finally managed to get 201 out of my M20J
  19. Way to spoil the fun
  20. Unless you’re one of the 2 people with a 3 door Mooney, you’ll have to resort to getting in the hard way. What’s your preferred way to get in and out? Bryan has some recommendations and techniques to master:

  22. Common misconception, but that’s not how it works. You don’t necessarily log PIC by acting as PIC. Might want to review 61.51e
  23. It’s funny, I had this exact scenario twice on my recent trip. In Fort Lauderdale, tower instructed me to “line up and wait” before the Southwest 737 on the runway even started to roll for takeoff. Cleared for takeoff before I was even lined up. I noticed a moment after takeoff where my climb flattened out momentarily but otherwise uneventful. In Louisville, I asked to takeoff once an embraer had landed and was instructed a 3 minute hold for wake turbulence. In Savannah, they had me takeoff on a crossing runway immediately after a flight of 8 F35s had taken off. When you play with the big boys, results may vary. Whole different animal if it’s a heavy.
  24. To avoid passing through this system coming back to NJ from Fort Lauderdale, made a layup to Louisville the previous day. Flew through a bunch of light to moderate, occasionally heavy, rain to get out. Cleared up when I reached the Smokies. Interestingly the mountains continued to block the weather like a wall for the next 24 hours. Came back to Linden today. Chose Louisville because it was the best place to make a brief visit and then get a VMC straight shot back Sunday.
  25. Last time I had to fly by airline I encountered a flight attendant so short she couldn’t lift bags/blankets into the overhead bin without climbing on the seats. I and other passengers ended up assisting her in her job.
