  1. The video in the link below must have been taken yesterday (Monday) when the engine and prop had been removed from the Mooney. There is some bending on the tips of the prop, but definitely not what you would expect if it was producing full power, especially after hitting a tree and then the ground. In the previous issues over the past month at least once the engine quit and at other times would not produce full power. At least once that was a clogged injector. So at the time of the crash it may not have been producing power or at least enough power to keep it flying. I hope there's enough left of the engine after the fire to determine what happened. https://cbs6albany.com/news/local/victim-survivor-in-deadly-milton-plane-crash-identified
  2. His contact is on http://www.mooneysupport.com/ He will still need to buy the software through a Mooney Service Center.
  3. Every one I’ve seen on a Mooney just measures the last 30 gallons, including the M20TN.
  4. None of the pictures I saw showed the condition of the prop
  5. I ordered my 401.37 software update through SWTA in Smithville TX, an MSC since they gave me the best price on ordering it. Mooney drop-shipped it to me. At that time the Mooney Service Center was still open in Kerrville so I had Mike Kneese install it. Jeff, their avionics guy actually did it. You need someone who is VERY familiar with G1000 software updates and can follow it step-by-step. If it hangs up they need to know how to go back and re-load everything. @Pmaxwell Paul Maxwell has probably done more of these 401.37 software updates than anyone else. You might reach out to him at Don Maxwell Aviation since he doesn't check Mooneyspace very often. Also you can e-mail support@mooney.com and Frank Crawford is good about answering questions.
  6. This is the injured passenger Alexander Hoff who is in a hospital in Albany, NY:
  7. Baber remembered as beloved grandfather and passionate flyer, screenwriter Baber is survived by his wife, Janice Baber, two children and two step-children. According to his daughter, Caitlyn Mallo, of Charleston, S.C., the longtime pilot bought a faster plane about a month ago to reduce the amount of time it took to visit Mallo and his grandson, Alexander. She said her father loved seeing him. “It’s just really sad, and you know, I’ve got a 1-year-old who is not going to see his pawpaw anymore,” Mallo said. Mallo told the Times Union she flew with Baber a few years ago and always felt safe. She called his love of flying “more than a hobby” and described him as a passive pilot. On the ground, the Ohio-born man had a passion for screenwriting. He was involved in several independent films, including “Trial by Ordeal,” “Alibi Witness,” and “Tragic.” “He just found it fascinating,” Mallo said. On Saturday, Mallo wrote in a tribute to her father on Facebook about the difficulty of the previous 24 hours. “I know in your last moments you did everything you could,” she wrote. “I wish that I told you I loved you one last time. I wish you could come home. I promise I’m going to be okay. We’re going to be okay. I know you’re going to be watching down on us every day.” She ended the post with: “I’ll see you later alligator, roger that. Over and out.”
  8. If you listen to the interview of the homeowner where his airplane ended up, the only thing the homeowner heard was a loud thump like a tree falling, no engine noise. He was shocked to have his neighbor tell him that there was an airplane on fire in his yard. We won't know for sure until the report but adding that to everything else that he had been dealing with this last few weeks on this airplane, it sure seems like he lost power shortly after take off. (When you hear hoofbeats . . think horses, not zebras.) "I heard a loud thump on the ground, but I thought it was a branch from one of my trees that fell to the ground. And so, I came around and then I came to my front door right over there. And there was a fellow running across my yard. He lives over here. And I said, what’s going on? He goes, ‘the plane fell!'" - - - He took off on runway 23 with wind at 250 @ 15, with gusts to 26, 10 miles visibility. That by itself would have been a little bumpy but wouldn't likely lead to loss of control.
  9. My Acclaim already had a small fairing and hole on the belly. (The Bravo that I previously owned had a previous Gill battery vent hole drilled on the belly.) I ran the condensate tube through the back wall (ABS section that I mentioned earlier) and down to the belly. Here's the price on Aircraft Spruce(https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pspages/planeac.php?clickkey=8600138). I'll send you a PM
  10. I bought two inspection panels from BAS and painted them white and cut holes in them and riveted vents on the panels. I keep the originals just as they were. Behind the carpet on the rear bulkhead I took out the door which allows access to remove the oxygen tank. I replaced that with a piece of ABS cut to size. I cut a 6” hole to exhaust the hot air from the AC. Its not hard to get the AC in and out. It has handles built in.
  11. Early on I learned about PlaneAC on Beechtalk and got on the waitlist and eventually bought a 28v unit for a Mooney Bravo from Ray Ackley in 2020. I later sold the airplane and foolishly sold the PlaneAC unit with it since it was purchased by a gentleman in Florida. In the meantime Ray Ackley sold the business to Adam Mc Peck and sadly Ray was killed in an airplane crash. I bought an Acclaim and being in Texas have tried ice chests and an Eco portable A/C (which was definitely better than the ice chest) . . . neither of those solutions made it comfortable. A couple of weeks ago I bought another 28v unit from Adam McPeck from PlaneAC and Adam couldn't have possibly made the process any easier. This past week while I had the interior out I ran the power and control wires and it is up and running. (Ironically this is also the week that we had our first cold front move through Texas this Fall . . . lol. Oh well, I'm ready for next Spring.)
  12. "Frederick M. Baber, 58, of Port Charlotte FL was killed when the plane he was piloting crashed as it was taking off from the Saratoga County Airport." "A passenger on the plane, Alexander Hoff, 39, of Hollis, New Hampshire, was seriously injured in the crash and remained hospitalized at Albany Medical Center on Saturday, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office." @mike_elliott I figured you would want to know.
  13. Jeff Shapiro from @Turboplus used to come on here and might respond. - - - It looks like Jeff is retiring http://www.turboplus.com/Default.asp
  14. The only noise any witnesses on the ground heard was the airplane hitting the ground - no engine noise whatsoever. The recurring fuel issues that started this thread make the most sense. https://www.news10.com/news/saratoga-county/authorities-identify-victims-of-deadly-milton-plane-crash/amp/

  16. That post describes the features. Ideally it needs to be done by an MSC with a G1000 expert. You buy the 401.37 software through an MSC. - - - - - Also now a few G1000 owners have added an Flight Stream 210 to be able to transfer flight plans via Bluetooth, which is only possible with 401.37.
  17. https://www.beechtalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=242286 https://www.news10.com/news/saratoga-county/plane-crashes-near-saratoga-county-airport/ https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/561073 The seller had the engine cut out a couple of days before the new owner came to pick it up and didn't disclose it. By not disclosing what happened days before it changed hands he opened himself up to a huge liability. Then immediately after delivery the buyer had it cut out right after take-off and made it back to the airport safely. At that point the Seller fessed up and told him what had happened days earlier. Earlier in this thread I begged the new owner to take whatever action he needed to do to rescind the deal. But he was so focused on getting it fixed and getting it home that ultimately it cost him his life. This airplane was for sale on here last year in a very sketchy ad. The next owner must have realized that he had bought a huge project and tried to make his problem somebody else's problem. Very sad outcome.
  18. I updated my databases today and it took about 5 seconds to update the Mag/Var database.
  19. Yep. He sold a lot of M20K Rocket conversions and M20J Missile conversions though. The Liquid Rocket was the last Mooney project, then he shifted focus to the JetProp for the Piper Malibu.
  20. If I remember correctly there were three M20Ls converted to Liquid Rockets and two M20Ms, but I could have it reversed (two M20Ls and M20Ms)
  21. I think he was talking about N-number not serial number.
  22. From the GNS530 Pilot's Guide: Overriding the automatic squelch: 1) Press the COM Power/Volume Knob momentarily. 2) Press the COM Power/Volume Knob again to return to automatic squelch operation. At least that would allow you to check it to see if that's the problem.
