Yeah that sounds right. and as already discussed - an investment toward the gfc500.
-
How much do you recon that option 2 will be?
-
Thanks for being my justification/its-ok-to-buy-airplane-junk-buddy. our old stuff will decline in resale value rapidly indeed in a way that is an especially good rational to do like I suggested. I have an annual in oct. if this thing exists by then I'll probably install then!
-
My hsi is currently in working order - so I'm thinking about just getting it now and enjoying best trade in value now for my clunky gyro that randomly eats 3-3.5k. Rather than wait until it breaks.... I would especially do that if I was investing toward a gfc500. And also enjoy a gpss feature now. once this thing actually exists...I might do that - and damned the torpedos/if I end up needing to go another direction - eg dynon I guess the G5 will still be worth a lot in resale
-
What I mean is, I am hedging.... I would possibly buy a G5 to use as a HSI and to enjoy the GPSS now and as a partial investment toward the GFC500 which then I would likely get when that too is released....if I am allowed. But if my airplane the M20K does not get the go ahead for the GFC500 but perhaps instead the GFC600, then I would have wasted my money on the G5 and be tempted to be pulling it out already perhaps 6 months after I installed it...if they only offer for the M20K the GFC600. Then I would be more likely to buy one of the other THREE digital autopilots in the future. So, I am likely to sit on my hands until the full possibilities become clear. One thing is for sure - the KFC200 is a short-timer moving forward in my airplane, because it seems to me to be it will be more and more expensive in the future to maintain, and it is already expensive to the point that good money is to upgrade to modern-digital.
-
I wo I don't think that would help - you can only use the servos if you buy their complete autopilot. The big question is if they will certify the GFC500 or 600 for us. Bummer your servo - I am holding out for one of this new generation of digital autopilots. But if one of the components on my KFC200 goes while I am waiting, I will most likely fix it, because...you never know if their promise to certify in a few months will turn out to be a few years, and I hate the idea of a primary system of my airplane being inop. I am tempted to get a G5 to replace my HSI - if nothing else - for the inexpensive GPSS - but does this corner me? If Garmin pushes me to a GFC600 - with no GFC500 option - then trio and dynon would look a lot more appealing - so I am waiting for 6-12 months or so before I decide to change anything. But...what is the current trade in value on my HSI?

Bendix/King news on AvWeb about KI-300

Right - I AM thinking about HDX, and the GFC500/G5 combo, or... the G3X presumably, and yes I know those would push a lot more than repairing a KI256. But I have been holding off for the last 2 or 3 years upgrading the panel anticipating that soon, what I really want would come, and .... it is ALMOST here. Now I am hoping my KI256 doesn't go kaput while I am waiting for those STC's to come for us. I'm not one to fly around with broken equipment waiting for the next big thing, so I won't, but it sure would be a bummer to put yet another 3k into a repair of my kfc200 when maybe what i really want would be just 2 or 3 months off...but you never know. Meanwhile, its all in working order, knock on wood. -

I don't understand. Please explain. also we might have synonyms or trio possibilities. l would be easily persuaded with the extra options... straight and level button, and esp envelope protection that stays active even when hand flying. And brushless motor servos. -

Thanks. In any case, if a GFC replacement comes along I am inclined to modernize just for the sake of the cost of repairing the old servos, the old computer, the old 256, all quickly becomes competitive with the new price structuring of this new breed of Digital autopilots, not even including the new full featured safety features. -

I'm curious - where does my kfc200 fit relative to that discussion? -

Where can that be done? You can't just bring them to the grocery store with aluminum cans. -
Dang! How much for a mooney?
-
Now there's an all in no excuse Ovation. Someone got a terrific airplane. Congratulations.

Oooooohhhh... and all this time, I thought it meant something else. Thanks for clearing that up for me. -
At 1500 and 190tas... what was you ias? You must be deep into the yellow.

Better to use gold plated tools then. is titanium common in domestic jet engines or just military stuff? -
No me - not necessarily - I could see a diesel that is significantly more reliable than current aviation pistons, and this one claims 40% more efficient than a standard avgas diesel, and massively more efficient than a turbine. If 300hp is the goal, and below 20k, and fuel efficient, then diesel is the leader in my opinion. 600hp....high altitude, 25k, turbine no question. I dream of a 450hp turbine mooney - but in reality - despite my pining for one - it doesn't make sense - you would need to carry so much fuel because it burns so much, that it would either be very heavy, or very short range. I always loved the idea of that bonanza turbine conversion - and I wouldn't say I would never get one - but....I doubt it.
-
That sounds promising.
-
A separate possibility - is if this really is a 420hp engine derated to ?310?320? Then it might be happy running at 250/260/270 Hp continuously easy and that would make a very very fast Mooney! So separate from economics is the need for speed which is always beyond all rational decisions. People would buy it.
-
Yeah - didn't say it was going to be easy. And I would think long and hard before spending an extra 100k myself. But I would love to have the option. If this thing really did show that kind of fuel specifics, and TBO, then it would be a legit decision financially to spend the extra on the engine to save at the fuel pump and overhaul. Just saying if.... OTOH in places like Europe with higher fuel prices even easier. And in some parts of the world avgas is very rare. I already saved 35lbs off my original prop by switching to an MT four blade. Can you imagine the range running 10gph at 230hp? I would say you could go coast-coast non stop relatively easy. I think this thing would have a place. Also in applications where it would make sense to tune it to 420hp, it becomes a turbine competitor, at much better fuel specifics. Eg, some twins.

That's nice - but Ummmm...6 lamps - I guess I could give them out for holidays? -
I don't know - I can't find the weight - but they claim it is lighter - even with the liquid cooling. It is compacted graphite iron - whatever that is... ANd they claim it is lighter relative to the equivalent aluminum weight for a given strength. On this page there is a picture of it on the nose of a cirrus - click on the liquid cooling button. https://eps.aero/the-eps-engine/reliability-safety-durability/ Huh - they claim 3000TBO and they claim 230hp would take 10gph. That 230 is like running my 305hp TSIO520NB at 75%...which takes a lot more than 10gph.
