When I first started here, I met a professor from engineering who said he teaches foundations. Which really surprised me and I told him so because in my department there is a guy who teaches foundations. In mathematics foundations of the field is set theory and logic which for students means including how to make solid air tight arguments and proofs which is sort of a cultural shift for many. But it is for sure on the pure pure pure esoteric side of mathematics for most. "On the spectrum" of mathematics, it is "right" of my position for sure. So I was super surprised they also taught foundations in his department, civil engineering at that. And he was surprised we taught foundations in our department, mathematics. After about 5 minutes of talking past each other, we realized....I was talking set theory and logic, and he was talking about a class about what goes into building a good foundation for a building, like dirt, cement, rebar, etc. He's the dean of the grad school now I still joke about that with him....

Thanks! Yup...that's what I look like. :-O Yes we shall call it the great Pi incident moving forward. My favorite number though is the golden mean. I will say why on some future occasion. There were many many very small body restoration things dine here and there from dings, to small plates with corrosion repaired or replaced, hinges, etc. Nothing that I even noticed, but now the over all effect is it looks absolutely like a new airplane now. I had procrastinated for a few years to get a new paint job in large part because I didn't know how I wanted painted but I wanted it to be mostly different from anything I saw before, and also I wanted it to not be too busy. So eventually I hit on this idea when I saw a really nice Shelby cobra in a car museum. So I sort of modified that, with with stripes on the wings and tail, and stripes coming together in the back and the checkers. All standard themes but a bit old school with mostly straight lines. But a very modern color and paint technology. The black in the checkers by the way is matte black as is the black in the naca scoops.

Thanks! Bennett was telling me there is a restored category at Oshkosh Im trying to figure out how to get into. Does anyone know how that works - where I link to find that information? I have not found it yet. I might like to go to one of the Mooney summit events if theres a category there and its not too far away like California.

My favorite number is the golden mean. It has the largest diophantine constant. (1+sqrt(5))/2=1/(1+1/(1+1/(1+1/1+...) in continued fraction form.

Porpoising leads to gear collapse accident

I have done a take off in landing configuration and it is quite a handful to push against the force it creates on the yoke while correcting the trim preventing the airplane from doing what it then wants to do which is nose straight up. I have not done it in full aft position, but I presume I am strong enough to over come that - but - I consider it a slightly risky practice maneuver to attempt single pilot - bring your pilot friend - since what if your seat pins give way? This practice event might turn into a real emergency, Luckily I am tall enough I can fly the airplane with the seat all the way back touching the back seat but still... -

Yeah - and that's the danger of trim in landing position. Vs full aft trim which is much more significant. -

Yeah - digital vs analogue. And its not just about modern vs older, or more functions versus less. The phrasing means that the computations are done in a digital circuitry by probably something like a DSP (digital signal processor) chip set, in a fashion that is actually a little computer that calculates the control law by computing the values of a formula. AN analogue circuitry is the older way that relies on build up of voltages in circuits and gains and converter circuits that convert the building voltages to voltages in the circuitry that goes to the servos. Nothing is ever directly computed. In the old days, like 1950's and 1960s, even some actual numerical computations were done by some on "analogue computers' by arranging a circuit to correspond to some desired calculation. It describes the kind of circuitry that is involved and likewise digital usually means a micro chipset and so more modern and also more robust.

That would be good - if it outputs to all 8 points by electronic ignition. But I am confused what is the second mag they are replacing doing? And where is it getting its energy source? From something on the second mag mounting that they make, or is that still coming from the standard alternator? So is the energy source more reliable? Same? Is that then still a mag as a back up but now 8 points (12) of electronic ignition?
