  1. I too have spoken to Avadyne and the price is 8800.00. The new unit will slide right into my 430W tray and is supposed to intergrate exactly like the Garmin. You will also be able to sell your Garmin 430W when the new unit comes. So the cost of the new unit will only be 3500 - 4000.
  2. 3 GUMPSAC's every landing. 1 after contacting tower 5 miles out, one on downwind, and check on final.
  3. Check to make sure you turn off Bluetooth when your not using it.
  4. Mitch I apologize your response was what I was looking for. As I read the take off chart at a density alt of 5500 with calm winds at 85 deg take off over a 50 ft obs is 3200 ft. I'm just saying its cutting it a little close for my personal minimums. Sorry if I offended.
  5. Where I am, KAVL is the same distance as Macon County. My thoughts are too many factors too close to the edge at Jackson County. I wasn't really looking for how, and where to practice short field operations, but thanks for the suggestions. I wanted to know if anyone was based at a field, that owned a long body, with that short of a runway, and used it on a regular basis. Not one alfrmative response so I guess thats my answer. The ability to bounce a question off so many Mooney plots with so much collective experience is what I love about this site, thank you guys for the insight and ideas.
  6. Great accomplishment . Congrats. Be wise.
  7. Does anyone operate their long body Mooney out of a field with a 3000 ft or shorter runway. I ask because I regularly fly into Asheville NC but their is a much closer field to my house, albeit on a mountain top 2850 ft with density altitudes into the mid 5000's. The airport is Jackson County 24A. Your thoughts??
  8. You guys can fight it all you want but I believe Avgas will disappear sooner than we would like. It won't be he environmentalists it will be the costs. As his article states, it represents only 1% a best of the gasoline market. http://www.epi-eng.com/aircraft_engine_products/demise_of_avgas.htm
  9. It produces 230 HP, I don't know what it weighs but it should push the Mooney at at least 160 - 170 kits. Jet A is the future and we all must look forward. I did notice the price but that should come down. At the current rate 100 LL is going to be 15.00 gallon in a few years, if it's available.
  10. Have you read the report from Oshkosh about the new Cessna 182 NXT. Turbo Deisel 230 HP that burns Jet A. Reportedly burns 11 gal hour and produces 230 HP. The Cessna reports 155 kits , that would push the Mooney at about Mach 1? Seriously I woudn't mind that being my next engine.
  11. I have also owned a M20J and I think 155 kts at 10.5 - 11 gph is about right. I know there are those on the forum that can get 160 (I've even heard 170) but color me skeptical.
  12. I was scared to click on this thread! I'm so relieved its about oil. You guys that can work on and fix their own airplanes are my heros. I'd be afraid to remove the cowl. In my case is better left to the professionals.
  13. Congrats. You should be very proud of yourself, its a great acomplishment. Be safe, and never stop learning.
  14. Parker !!! Is that your plane with a 242kt GS? Nice, couldn't find a tail wind??
  15. Maybe he works during the week?
  16. This is exciting. Can't wait to see. This is the most fun on this forum in a while, I love a good hunt
  17. They love cat food!!! Don't ask how I know.
  18. Federal airspace shut down for a fundraiser?? The pilot shoud get the TFR's before taking off, but come on!! Official business is one thing but fundraisers?? OK I'm done now.
  19. Hey Dale, Nice plane, I came within an eyelash of buying that airplane and at the last second decided to go with an Eagle. Best of luck with her and fly safe. Love the paint job. Bruce Spencer N2170B
  20. Lew.... I must be as stupid as you, because thats exactly the way I read it too.
