  1. My sintements were asserted and are well documented in earlier threads. I made my point some time ago.
  2. Tim..is your serial # correct?
  3. Nice bird..great example of a superbly refurbished, well maintained 201.
  4. Quote: aerobat95 Too bad we cant just make some of the parts ourselves.....especially the gear doors...I have seen some pretty amazing things done on car restorations where guys start out with a piece of sheet metal and after some time come up with some pretty amazing parts....as good or better than the original. Yeah...and there is nothing like those BMW oil transducers that are identical to the ones in our Mooneys, but cost 1/20th the price.
  5. Quote: co2bruce Dockets idea may not be far off. As our fleet gets older and parts get harder to find (and more expensive) the owners may need to do something similar to Commander and Eclipse. That would give us all an excuse to fly back to Kerriville.
  6. Mooney is a peice of cake Beau if you have a young family of four. I began that way. Now I have three kids and a lot less time to fly. I bought my 201 with a 32 inch waist. I am now, shall we say, significantly larger. The Mooney has proved to be such a valuable business tool, I revised my mission to exclude the three family trips each year. A36 costs too much. I now teach my boys to fly, maintain proficiency and take 7-10 biz trips up and down the east coast each year. The 201 is so inexpensive and reliable, it still makes sense.
  7. Quote: bd32322 mooniac - with reference to the big screens from Garmin - maybe there is a market for what appears to be bigger or wider displays from Aspen. But for the clean slate upgraders - they dont need to fit the aspens into existing instrument holes. A wider bigger screen will look better aesthetically - and satisfy a larger section of the pilot population. On
  8. Quote: Cris Wait a second, if you purchased a Mooney,,,,,title serach, verification, chain of title, the entire FAA file and escrow fees..total, should not have exceeded $500. These services are usually provided by or are a sub-fee of responsible lenders who also wish to verify their vested interest. Like Avemco insurance...this is where AOPA becomes unrealistic. You are correct except for the Title Insurance which represented the additional extra cost. Like any insurance it protects the buyer. My point is that liens can be placed on individuals and definitely against corporations that typically own the A/C outright. These may not show up in the FAA file at time of purchase. Therefore you have no real protection against such liens without title insurance except thru the legal system ie costly. In the past I never thought much about it but today is a differant story.
  9. Jetglow is no longer made and for good reason. It was a poor product. Mine only lasted 8 years with moderate wx flying and hangared. The base coat was poorly applied with orange peal, vibration cracks on the cowl and now wing flakes everywhere. I am about to re-do. Imron is still good. What are the hot products these days? The tried and true? I am going with Hagerstown Aircraft. Probably the only certified MSC in the country that does paint (other than the factory). Their paint work is probably better than their Mooney work, but recognized as excellent. Any experiences to the contrary?
  10. Quote: Cris I used the escrow/title services available thru AOPA simply because they are a known entity to me. I do not recall the exact cost but it was probably around $2000 including title ins. Of course AOPA makes money so the services are available elsewhere for less but I did not have the experience to determine who might be better.
  11. Both http://www.shenandoahavionics.com/ and http://www.lancasteravionics.com/ have stock piled the parts you need over time. I doubt they offer the parts at salvage prices. If your motherboard is corroded, good luck. Stec replacement for the Alt Hld?

  13. Quote: Parker_Woodruff about the only good news is I don't think China will be the very next buyer for Mooney...but that ain't to say they won't buy it after the next buyer.
  14. Quote: mooniac58 I think if Obama gets his way it will take another downturn. He is trying hard to do away with the tax incentives on businesses purchasing aircraft - which is probably the only thing that kept GA aircraft companies from going under during the recession. Obama is using the "we hate rich guys, their corporations and their jets" mantra to drum up support with the American "sheeple" when the truth is it was also a huge push to get little businesses to step out and buy Cirrus, Mooney, Beech, Piper, etc. AOPA covered it recently here: http://www.aopa.org/advocacy/articles/2011/110629obama_vilifies_aircraft_praises_ga_manufacturers.html
  15. On a executed go-around, I wouldn't touch the flaps until I reach at least 500 agl with a +500fpm rate. What purpose is served? In any aircraft? A recipe for a pavement snack.
  16. If it were a late model 185 with good times, no floats and no loops, I'd sell-trade you a great one.
  17. It wants to fly early and this happens more often with a forward CG and lighter load, but it can heavy also. Trim up a hair, keep the nose pushed forward on the pavement until rotation. Gently pull back at 63KIAS. No more hopping.
  18. Quote: peter We were quoted $1395 for exchange, $1695 for new. Perhaps the K pump is more expensive?
  19. Just replaced mine, literally a week ago. Exchange value was $140. New pump was $1270. Labor, another $150. $1300 for a new pump is correct, not a rebuilt. 1270-140+150+$1280 for a NEW pump installed. PM me if you'd like to see the shop order. It is from Landmark FBO. I own a J not a K. I don't know if there is any difference. Good news is it should last a decade or so.
  20. Is your very nice "F" on the block? Still? Gone?
  21. I am sorry, i wasn't specific. St Ignace is a great runway and saves you some $$. Landing on Mackinac is good too. If the Wx is bad, Pelston ILS works (19 miles away).
  22. Hey Brett, My wife is from the town right across the sound from Mackinac Island, St Ignace. We have been going there for 15 years. The runway is great, the water is clear and don't eat too much fudge. A 1st clas destination. the runway is great. Just an awesome place to go!!
  23. W45 OR kTGI. both in the MD-VA area. 2.5 from where you are. W45 is a breathtaking mountain-valley landing. Great golf course right by the runway, 4 bed and breakfasts and prehistoric caverns. KTGI is a bike riding, seafood fest. Watch it, the runway is a little rugged. Ross (shadrach) below is familiar with these places I am sure. Have fun this weekend!!
  24. Your incident was the Brasillia Jet guys wanting a good look at you or they just were'nt concerned. They knew what they were doing. Their TCAD was blarring at them the whole time. That must have been a heck of a sight!! You're right, if you were IFR in B or C, minimum separation would have been 500 and 1/2. I have TIS Mode S too. It's the bomb, especially around crowded Bravo airspace.
