  1. Not to get too far off Mooney topics....but this guy is a smooth operator. Ice? Zero viz? Mountain obscuration? Grizzly Bears on the runway? No biggy!!! There are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are no "Old-Bold Pilots".
  2. They're worth about $80-90k. If you can get a Mod Works converted airframe for that, it's a deal. Otherwise, you are paying for too much, given the risk. They are NOT Ovations and shouldn't be categorized or compared as such.
  3. I think the Mooney 201 is too underpowered to seriously consider the untility of TKS, but then again Wilmar has installed many of them on 201's. There's nothing like horsepower at altitude. Also, JOB...facinating ice encounters. Could it have been your speed and airframe smoothness?

  5. $14k to $22k a year for Mooney SC maintanence, keep it in a hangar, carry some small amount of debt to pay on, have a million smooth insurance and a $10k gotcha about every two years (tanks, autopilot, maybe add a GPS, etc) . A $10k total budget works for low end maintanence, no improvements and a lot of luck. The only function of total hours flown is fuel, which while significant should not greatly alter comittment level. If you are going to buy a later F model...don't waste your time. Find a way to get a J. The improvement is vast and shouldn't be ignored. the premium is small. A late 1960's F purchased in the low $60k's will need work.
  6. I own one of he better refurbished Mooney 201's in the country, based Frederick, MD. It is Weber maintained, loaded with STEC and Garmin avionics, excellent P&I, less than 500 SFNEW engine, 3900TT and loaded with goodies. $207k invested, 12 year ownership, no excuses. I have been trying to move up to a Baron or A36, but I have been disappointed with Mooney values, so I have held on. The AC is in the photo gallery on this site. "N4352H". You may e-mail me directly for specs and a viewing. john@voicejohn.com If it doesn't sell by March 1st, it is going in for annual and a G500 install. After that, I doubt I'd ever sell it.
