Calling All Experts! First Time Mooney Buyer Needs Help!
jetdriven replied to BobCW's topic in General Mooney Talk
We had a similar issue. Aopa was using Bank of America for the money, and it cost like 16 or 17% which is higher than the Bank of America credit card we had. We ended up using a local credit union and get the money for about 6% which in 2010 was pretty good money. But none of the others came close to that, not Bank of pryor, not dorr aviation, not Airfleet capital or any of the others -
The service instruction says you stamp zero over the five to make it 20°, so why not just stamp a five over the zero, and effectively completely 180° undo the service instruction?

Problem here is if you add up all the people who buy a liability policy to rent at the company, it's more expensive than it is if the flight school simply bought the policy themselves and raised the rate to cover it. That's the 80 different people have to buy a $400 policy a year, thats 32K. Yes, I always wondered, if a flight school is too cheap to insure their own airplanes what else are they skipping out on? dual magneto overhauls? inspections? Maintenance?

the 1E10 TCDS says the 20 degrees timing is optional. Thats the regulatory black letter.

Adjust prop governor on IO360-A3B6 (not a3b6d)

It is the governor for the A3B6 and not for the A3B6D correct? they are different -
Do the Ovations do this?

Calling All Experts! First Time Mooney Buyer Needs Help!

Also, as Excel spreadsheet doesn’t always take everything into account. What you’re trying to do is minimize risk as a buyer. Inspect all the steel tubing, inspect all of the spars including the rear spar, in the gear well, and from behind inspection panels. But also some hidden risk that may blow you up for 40 grand that you may not be aware of. A plane with 400 hours on it and eight years since an overhaul for example, infrequently flown. There was a guy on beach talk going to this right now he’s got a 2017 overhaul with 500 hours, and he puts a cylinder on it, but they look inside the engine and the cam is trashed. . pull a cylinder off for the pre-buy, pay the seller good money for his risk as well but really you want to do this. Frequently, these engines eat a camshaft and lifters which turns into an overhaul just about as quickly as that. Or like a person I know of, that bought a plane with an engine had been prop struck a couple of times, and had the case reworked. The case had five or 6000 hours on it, and low and behold, right out of prebuy the case is cracked in three places. Now the seller is surprisingly, working with him on this, but that’s a 30-40k deal. You must be very careful when you’re dealing at the lower end of the market, because a $70,000 1967 F model can turn into $120,000 67F model that you’re buried in. I think the later airplanes present a little bit less risk in that regard. You do have to pay more upfront, and if you’re financing it, you’re eating more interest, but right now money is cheap, so it does not cost very much more to buy a whole lot more expensive and better equipped airplane. One of my clients did this, he got out of his $60,000 M20C with no radios, and got into an 87J with a high time engine for like 90 grand. So he gets to enjoy a pretty fresh low time airplane, that has all the modern things like Epoxy coated steel tube fuselage tubing, and when he goes to sell it he’s going to make a good bit of cash from it. -
This is the J model but after 500 hours it’s still exactly right.... You just got to shim it once.

The spinner does not center in flight. George Perry proved this out

Spend real money on a detailed prebuy inspection by someone who knows these aircraft. It’s like spending money on a lawyer, you need a good one. If you find one one the east coast, call me. -
A Navion is so tough that you could probably plow through a herd of deer and still get airborne and go back home.

Those valves have a sliding piece that is supposed to cut the hot air off from the muffler. We found that there’s no amount of fiddling with this to keep them from leaking. However the 1979 and newer airplanes have a different type of valve, it is actually a round plate that swings on a shaft and covers the end of a tube. Putting some fresh 1/32” thick silicone rubber on the end of this round piece inside, seals off air super tight and no heat leakage.

One consequences this is a very clean airplane and if you botch the maneuver and you have the nose pointed at the ground for any length of time the airspeed is gonna quickly go right past redline and to who-knows how fast..

Double up buttercup or how to get rid of your side gap
jetdriven replied to bradp's topic in General Mooney Talk
I apologize for calling you a RWNJ and insinuating you would shoot up a clinic. People can read your posts and infer their own opinion from that. But here's the deal, the site is not the place for conspiracy theories, COVID denial, global warming denial, and inflammatory political posts. You managed to check all the boxes in three posts on one page. This is CERTAINLY it is not the place to state that Nazis are running the government. Take that stuff to Parler. It's like you're cruising for a fight, even took a shot of Anthony who is like the nicest guy I've ever met. It's the same old thing... Somebody posts inflammatory material, other people respond, then it turns into a "muddy the water" and then " both sides do it" big shit fight. It doesnt belong here. There are plenty of venues for that. The OP posted it because it related to commercial air travel and the minimal space for passengers. -
Safe Flight Lift Detector: A Guide, A Rant

perhaps. I though it was called safe flight. It had a vane, and analog horizontal needle with a dot. -

I flew with a guy that had one of those installed. He slows down to where it shows almost stalled and I'm like we're not even close to being stalled. And just for good measure, we roll into a 60° bank and were able to turn at about 98 mph. The safe flight was completely buried off scale, so I'm like well if you're basing your approach speed on this thing you're flying 12kt too fast. -

I'm not sure what kind of "rant" it is except for "listen to experts when you get your medical advice" and "don't post RWNJ conspiracy stuff on a mooney site. Save that stuff for Parler." i think most people would agree with that. I actually know the OP, Bradp, and he is a Doctor. The kind working double shifts for the past year to keep people from dying. -

Mmmmmkay. I take my advice from real Doctors such as Bradp, not auto mechanics. I’d suggest everyone else do the obvious, too. -
Has anyone seen my engine? Lost in shipment.
jetdriven replied to JamesMooney's topic in General Mooney Talk
There is a such thing as a zero payout claim, like when you call your insurance agent and ask them if prop strike damage is covered and it happened. Then you later change your mind and decide to eat it but they can still raise your rates on it. -

I remember whenever we had our Lycoming factory engine shipped from Pennsylvania, basically, the shippers liability was like a dollar per pound. We could not buy additional insurance above that. The factory was like well this is how we do it and I’m like you know I’m not comfortable with this but we could not find anything better -
rapco discs but the pads tend ot not have as much friction as cleveland pads.; we pulled them off and it stops better with Clevelands.

if you have a 209 then, as far as the left-right go. yes. You run the +L +R (pin 5,6 on the G430W) to pins 10 and 11 on the KI-209. you tee off these two wires to give the signal to your autopilot. The indicator and the autopilot are wired in parallel.
