  1. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. Side note...I too can remember things from the 60's clearly. It is what I did yesterday that is a challenge. Getting old aint for sissies!
  2. I have owned and flown the PSE units. Currently own and fly the Garmin. Both excellent choices. A new audio panel would be a coin toss between these units for me.
  3. It has been a few years since I dealt with Fieldtech, but all of my experiences with them have been excellent. Not the cheapest place to do business, but very professional and they know what they are doing. Good people. FWIW and YMMV...
  4. 68C all stock except prop which is 2 blade Scimitar. I fly 6-8kft 143-145 kts TAS with WOT 2400 rpm and close to 11 gph. One of my cylinders peaks and goes lean well before the other 3. Otherwise, I could be closer to 10 gph, but that's just the way it is with my engine. The prop helped my TAS significantly. Before the Scimitar, I was in the 135-137 range with a 3 blade, and never saw 140 TAS. FWIW and YMMV, as always.
  5. First, let me say I am not a technical geek when it comes to my iPad2 and iPhone5. Posts like this make me shake my head in wonder, and hope my battery life doesn't change. The battery life on my iPad2 is awesome (typically about 8 hours - never measured closely, but about right). I am running ForeFlight. I have friends with the same iPad for flying, and they also report the same experience regarding battery life. I hope whatever button or app I haven't pushed yet doesn't get enabled and change the way it operates. Also, FWIW. the internal GPS seems to work great for me, and my friends. The iPhone5, on the other hand, is very disappointing with regard to battery life. I never get through a full day without having to charge, but I am on the phone very much with my work. All of my iPhone expert friends have told me how to shut off things in the background, and I have done so, with little improvement.
  6. Good point Dave. No endorsement for spending any extra time in Oakland meant. Strictly fly in to a great airport KOAK, and get over to San Francisco immediately. I have used both rent cars and the rapid transit system there. Both were good.
  7. I have had great experiences with Oakland KOAK for GA. Easy access to San Francisco and great service for "smaller" aircraft. Highly recommended.
  8. I have been wearing them for over 30 years in cockpits, and they work great for me. Tried for a while to carry a second pair of sunglasses, and it just didn't work.
  9. Wish I lived closer. That would be awesome. Please give us a report on the highlights. It should be very interesting.
  10. I like the instrument panel. The U2 didn't need a 6-pack instrument cluster, and neither does my M20C. Good enough for the U2, good enough for me!
  11. Thanks for the heads up!
  12. No problem... I was confused and not sure what you wanted.
  13. Try these links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mooney_M10 http://www.ercoupe.org/Fly-in%20Reports/FlyingAnAircoupe.htm ?? Got it??
  14. Diablo 3 is the latest EFIS from Garmin?
  15. It is an Ercoupe with a Mooney tail. Google Ercoupe History and you can read all about the details. Cool little plane, but not that many were made.
  16. Oshkosh. Yes, i have been to both. For me, no contest... OSHKOSH wins hands down.
  17. I have owned and flown many aircraft. Every one of them has been great, and every one of them has been a compromise in one way or another. There is no such thing as one size fits all. For my current needs, my Mooney is pretty close to a perfect match. Nothing out there I would rather have.
  18. Always stirring the pot Fantom... my kind of guy!
  19. Wow... MJC, sorry you had a bad experience with the Piper. As I guess is always the case, you pay your money and you take your chances. My experiences with Pipers was a very different story. Good luck with whatever you decide. I can tell you from personal experience, your children will be grown and gone way too quickly, and you will wish you could just have your C-Model back. Again, good luck!
  20. I do not understand your issues with Piper aircraft. I have owned some Pipers, flown many, many hours in many, many models, and I have found most of them to be fine aircraft. I am not that enthused with the Apaches and Aztecs, although many people seem to like them just fine. I think the Cherokee series are incredible, including old and newer versions. FWIW
  21. I almost bought a Trinidad years ago. The problem for me is that I have a long torso, and I just did not fit without my head hitting the roof. Other than that it was pretty cool. I did have concerns about service and support given a foreign manufacturer. I used to have a Navion. Fun airplane, but just too old and not practical as a daily flyer. Hung in there for too long before moving on. I flew a Saratoga all over the lower 48 for about 5 years when my 3 kids were young, and it was awesome. Moved up to a BE58TC when they got older, and it was awesome too. Glad I am not filling those tanks today though! From what you have said, I would take a closer look at the longer fuselage series Bonanzas, such as the 36. Great airplanes! Good luck. I have been through the pain of change with a growing family.
  22. I would try calling Don Maxwell 903-643-9903. If he doesn't have one, he could probably suggest where to look. Good luck!
  23. I have an external GPS antenna, but the XM is on the glare shield... which in a C is very little space to work with. When I had my avoinics upgraded, they at least cleaned up the XM antenna so it doesn't look like a mess with the cables hanging in the cockpit. FWIW.
  24. Befor GPS and all the FAR's came along, flying was a helluva lot more fun!!! Ah, the good ole days.
