  1. That's always bothered me too. I can't imagine it would be cheap to fix so I've just left it alone. BTW, it sags the same amount on the ground.
  2. Damn right! That never would have escaped the Mooney factory. Luckily there's one on each side so the plane doesn't yaw to the right.
  3. Ha! I have a good friend who has a plane washing/waxing business at Denver Centennial. He indeed washed and waxed the plane before the shoot. I don't know how long it took.
  4. The first Type S to roll off the line was SN 31-0100 in 2008. Mine is 31-0108, also in 2008. With the advent of the Type S Mooney offered the BMW-designed paint scheme and interior as an option. There were multiple colors available. 31-0100 is just like mine except replace blue with black. The BMW badges on my plane were glued on by the first owner; they're not approved by Mooney or BMW. Best I can tell he bought them on eBay.
  5. Last week I hired a professional aerial photographer to take some air-to-air photos of me flying my Acclaim. We launched from Denver at about 4:30pm and headed to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and Great Sand Dunes national park in southern Colorado. I thought we'd get some cool backdrops down there, and we did, but it was cloudier than we had hoped so shots in the sun were hard to come by. We flew in pretty bumpy air for just over 2.5 hours and I have to tell you, flying formation in the bumps for that long is exhausting. Kudos to the photographer, Mitch Bowers (www.imagewerx.us). I think he did a fantastic job! Please vote for your favorite, by number. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
  6. I don't know how much the Charlie weights weigh, but the TKS system with full fluid onboard weighs about 100lbs. 40 of that is the equipment and the rest is the fluid.
  7. Trinidad (KTAD), in southern CO, is closed for several months while they scrape and repave both runways. So there are some rays of light out there. Most of the Front Range and eastern plains airports here around Denver are in pretty decent shape. The only exceptions I can think of are a couple very small strips in rural communities.
  8. Here's a similar one with different colors and animations: https://www.windyty.com/?0.903,-100.341,4
  9. Definitely the case here in Denver. They're resurfacing big sections of Centennial Airport and the surrounding roads, plus other roads all over town.
  10. With conventional cameras, shutter speeds of 1/80th of a second or longer should blur the prop. I didn't know about the iPhone camera features. I'll have to give them a try.
  11. Stunning! Those were some pretty wet clouds.
  12. Yep, the OP follows my CG loading rule of thumb: Heaviest passenger sits up front unless one of the passengers is a hot blonde.
  13. Funny, I've not landed in any of those states either! Hoping to knock off Alabama and Louisiana next month. We'll see.
  14. Jerry, what a great trip! Now you need to update the map of states you've landed in.
  15. I didn't serve but am proud of several family members who have: Step-grandfather: Navy, Pacific Theatre, WWII. Still healthy and active at the age of 90. Dad: Marines Step-uncles: One graduated USAFA and served in the first Gulf war. Two others were Navy officers. Half-brother: Retired Colonel, US Army. First cousin: US Army, first Gulf War Second cousin: Marines, three tours in Vietnam
  16. I've been using XM but I recently purchased a Stratus 2 so now I use XM and ADSB.
  17. This is exactly the same as my setup.
  18. Sweet! Congratulations, and have fun!
  19. The gimbal on the Phantom 2+ is very fragile and prone to getting out of adjustment. I was always careful to secure it with the plastic pieces but that didn't help. Now I can't fix it any more. Like you, I like the concept of using a standalone camera but never really looked into it.
  20. Haven't got my license yet but two years ago I used a Phantom 2 to capture aerial footage of my sister's wedding. The videographer told me what he wanted me to shoot, then he took my footage and folded it into his final product. It was very impressive. They are easy to operate. The camera gimbal on mine got messed up so I haven't used it much since.
  21. Thanks, Hank. I don't post to boast. I've been flying Mooneys for 30 years. I cut my teeth with C, F, J and K models before I got my TN. And I loved them all. They are all solid, well-engineered, fast, efficient and reliable airplanes. I've stuck with the M20s for very good reasons. The M20TN is a beast. It's the ultimate expression of Al Mooney's airframe. It's hand-built in Texas. Al Mooney grew up in my hometown of Denver. I wish I could take him for a ride. He would be amazed, but probably not surprised.
  22. 3.5 hours in the Acclaim yesterday from KSNA to KABQ, then 1.5 more this morning from KABQ to KAPA. Overall I flew 13 hours on the nose during my trip to the West Coast. Will post writeups soon!
  23. Now that's something! All the years I've been flying into KASE I have never been assigned 33, and I've landed with some 5kt tailwinds or so on 15.
  24. Aspen is challenging but fun. The surrounding terrain necessitates steep approaches. BTW, they almost never land 33, even if the wind favors it, due to terrain and noise abatement. Beautiful photos!
  25. Well, now we know why: arson. I hope they hang the bastard. So far they've linked him to 17 fires up there in the past year. Unbelievable. http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/More-than-100-structures-destroyed-in-Lake-County-9143174.php
