John, that's basically what my attorney told me. -
Moving my Acclaim to California!

Nothing wrong with parking outside in CA. Back in the 80s and 90s I rented a Socata Trinidad from a gentleman who parked it outside at Palo Alto. The sun took its toll, but, as you say, it wasn't all that bad. I just prefer to be indoors. -

It's true, for a few reasons: 1. As peevee said, Centennial is a much bigger and busier, and is in an urban area, not a semi-rural one. 2. Hangars in Petaluma are city owned so you pay lower municipal rental rates. Centennial hangars are privately owned so you pay higher fair market rates. I got a nice T-hangar at Petaluma. No way I'm leaving an Acclaim outdoors! -

Thanks, Robert. I've previously owned airplanes in CA and am familar. Use tax not an issue. I've owned the plane for almost 6 years. My attorney tells me I won't owe the FTB squat for my LLC because it's domiciled in Colorado and the plane won't be generating income. Property tax sucks but I'll more than recoup it with what I'm saving in hangar rent. -

Wheels up at 6:40am. Not a single bump or cloud to be found until reaching the vicinity of Petaluma, where I flew the RNAV (GPS) RWY 29 approach down to minimums through the coastal fog. Truly a glorious day to fly! -

Yeah, that will be a mess. I don't know why they're resurfacing it. Seems to be in fine shape to me. -
Weather permitting, I'll be moving my Acclaim to Petaluma, CA (O69) tomorrow morning. So far the forecast looks good. Hoping to do a lot more flying out there with my wife in the much smoother air of the West Coast. She won't fly in Colorado any more - too much turbulence. I don't blame her.

Sure is. Major bummer.

One of These Is Not Like the Other

Years ago when flying from northwest Arkansas to Denver I had to make an emergency bathroom stop for one of my pax in Wichita. I put down at the airport where they were building Bonanzas. Somewhere I have a picture of my Encore on the ramp at the end of a row of about 30 brand new Bonanzas. They were very gracious hosts at the factory and gave my pax and I a nice tour. Nevertheless, I graciously declined when they asked me if I wanted to talk trade. -
I got my PPL while attending Princeton. Princeton had its own flying club and I was renting 152s and 172s there. Because of my heavy course load I couldn't plan flights ahead of time... it was usually last-minute when I had a few free hours open up. Back then (1985-1987) the flying club was busy and it was almost impossible to get a 152 or 172 at the last minute. Fortunately, some wealthy alums put a brand new 201, 231 and 252 into the club. I was one of the few members who had a complex endorsement, so the 201 became my ticket to last-minute flying. I emerged from my checkout realizing that this awesome airplane left the Pipers and Cessnas I had been flying in the dust in every possible way. That's how I got hooked. I flew the snot out of that plane during my junior and senior years. It was awesome. Here I am with that bird almost exactly 30 years ago, May 9th, 1987, one month before graduation. This was at the now closed Bader Field in Atlantic City, NJ.

Mountains must have been gorgeous. I love going to Durango.

The smooth days we get are definitely nice! Where are you based?

I moved from the West Coast to the middle (Denver), and whereas my wife was happy to fly up and down the coast in the predominantly smooth air out there, she won't even get in the Mooney here in Colorado where it's turbulent more often than not. A couple of really rough rides over the last few years did it for her. Our problem here isn't IFR conditions. It's windy and bumpy air! That's why I'm moving the Mooney back to Cali.

Delete the map from your signature. Then go back to the site where you got it, recreate it, and then select one of the smaller map sizes from the menu at the bottom.

Looking for some Denver area advice

My flights from the coast are at the same time, arriving Denver around noon. It's almost always bumpy descending into town. Just a fact of life around here. -
What's the closest you've come to a gear up POLL
Joe Zuffoletto replied to 201er's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Have never had a gear up (knock on wood). However, one time after landing my Encore at Stockton airport (CA) I raised the gear handle instead of the flaps handle while rolling out on the runway. The gear didn't retract - I was saved by the squat switch. I realized my error immediately and put that gear handle right back down. Whew! This is exactly why some instructors tell you not to touch anything until you're clear of the runway. -
I used to until I had to replace the main gear biscuits with only 300 hours on the plane. 612 lbs of fuel is a heavy load.

Joe Zuffoletto replied to Robert C.'s topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
John, I've flown nonstop to Denver from Northern and Southern California dozens of times. I leave as early as possible and go direct at 17,500' or higher. The Class Bravo ends at the base of the foothills and the floor there is 10,500'. If you're VFR then you can plan your descent to get below that in plenty of time. That's what I usually do. Don't expect a clearance into the Bravo if you're VFR; the only time they gave me one was when I told them I lost oil pressure and wanted to stay as high as possible on my way back to Centennial. If you're IFR then peevee is right. ATC will generally keep you high until the last minute, then slam-dunk you with orders to remain clear of the Bravo. That's why if I'm on an IFR flight plan but conditions are VFR, I cancel about 50 miles out and manage my own descent. The controllers are great but it's hard to get a Bravo clearance, especially coming in from the west. -
Not sure I understand your question. Shoot me a PM.

I met that guy.... he has two Mooneys and came to look at mine when I had it up for sale last fall.

I have a link to this live Denver webcam embedded in my home page. I check it whenever I'm coming home from somewhere else - gives me a good idea what the buildups are doing. Boulder is nestled up against the foothills right behind the lone mid-rise building on the right. BJC is just left of that. This view is from southeast of downtown, looking northwest.
