  1. And my mag is coming up for overhaul at this annual.
  2. The Sure Fly magneto replacement was certified for the 231 with a caveat, it is only approved for fixed timing right now, not advanced timing. I called Sure Fly tech support and they claimed they're close to approval for advanced timing and then the unit could be switched to advanced with little effort (But he is a sales guy too, so who knows the truth on that). So the only real benefit at this point for the switch to sure fly would be easier start (Mine starts easy now) and no 500 hour mag inspection and no timing check on one mag at annual. The unit is about $1700 and you also need a new harness and a resistor for the tach. My mechanic said he didn't think it was worth it if you can't advance the timing. I think the lack of mag overhaul and simplicity make it maybe worth it. What do you guys thing?
  3. I thought camguard wasn't approved for turbo use? Probably not related to this problem though...
  4. Dang it, you just reached my level of paranoia! now I need to get a new one. $350 for peace of mind i guess isn't too bad...
  5. cool, thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll give it a chance and see how it does.
  6. Yeah, that could get pricey. I got lucky and someone was there with a jumper. I think my battery (1984 231) is only about $350.
  7. Well I've gotta ask now! Why?! How?! Batteries aren't that much!
  8. My daughter accidentally bumped the overhead light switch getting something out of the plane when we were on a trip and we came back to a dead battery. Luckily we were able to get a jump and the battery took a charge from the alternator on the 5 hour flight back home. Started up fine after getting gas and taxiing back to the hangar. But, since the battery was completely drained, is it best to get a new one? It is a Concord RG-35 battery. I saw the related thread about wiring a timer to that switch like Don did...Awesome idea! My wife also suggested just disabling that light since we never use it...
  9. Probably need new springs; may have stretched over time or during maintenance. Mine was doing the same thing and new springs solved it.
  10. I flew into eagle. They had a heated hangar which was nice. Glen wood springs had a fun hot springs pool/hot tub facility which I would recommend for an evening
  11. Hope to go, depending on weather
  12. But is it a IO-360 conversion? Where is the air filter? I didn't see it mentioned...
  13. I DO need it to decorate my hangar! And he is local, but $1000 seems pretty steep for a hangar decoration. I texted him and said if nobody else is interested and the price drops to let me know.
  14. Would Placerville work? I have a 231 (K). Same interior size as an F or G.
  15. No idea about the F, but my K has 49 in the nose wheel.
  16. Yeah, yeah, the 252 is pretty nice...I guess But mine has a ski tube, so I think mine wins!
  17. Probably pretty close, the K would likely beat it, but not by much and certainly not worth the fuel difference at those low altitudes. But, 231's are still great! Besides, who wants to fly so low?
  18. While I agree with Cruiser in this case, it doesn't seem like a K would really benefit him in the low altitudes of Illinois; BUT, I have to stick up for the mighty 231 in a few things... 1: The turbo is not a handicap below 15,000. A 231 will outrun a 201 at most altitudes, with the big difference starting above 10,000. Yes, you'll burn more fuel and the 201 is more efficient, below 10,000. 2: In this case, it sounds like the 201s are better equipped, but on average, the 231 came with more standard equipment, such as oxygen, folding rear seats, one piece belly, long range tanks, etc. 3: No, it isn't 1/3 more fuel...more like 1/4 (But yes, more fuel burn, less efficient) 4: Don't underestimate the value of a turbo for high density altitude days. While I routinely use high altitude airports so I really get the turbo benefit, it could also help on a hot and humid Illinois summer day too. So, in conclusion, 231s are great. If you disagree, you're entitled to your wrong opinion
  19. No sure if this was a serious question or not...but I think from the pictures and name of item, you could probably get some idea? Maybe Google? If not, it is a model of a plane, used in instruction, to discuss and model a maneuver or sequence of maneuvers to help the student visualize the action. Hopefully that helps
  20. Yeah price wasn’t bad...i think it was $90? Could be wrong. They pulled pics from the internet and I sent some pics too for the scheme. The only downside was the three + months lead time. Was a bit worried about getting it in time but their customer service was pretty good and kept us informed.
  21. From aviator gear. Pretty darn accurate. It’s a briefing stick but so far it seems like I’m briefing a lot of aerobatic maneuvers with it.
  22. You should make a new post with some possible dates, etc.
  23. Me too!! Schedule it!! That sounds great!
  24. Ok I'll try to get some asap.
  25. At some point I uploaded the 337 into downloads, but next time I have the battery access open I'll take a picture.
