optometrists/ bifocals medical renewal question
N601RX posted a topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I'm not sure if we have any optometrists on the fourm or not, but I'm sure there are others who have been through this. My medical is up for renewal next month and Its been a couple of years since I visited my optometrists. Last time I visited him, he told me I would probably need bifocals by my next visit. Well, its 2 years later and I would have to agree with him. I've been doing some reading by an optometrists who wrote an article for the eaa and he suggested an ST25 or ST28 straight line lenses. He mentions that progressives don't always work well for some pilots. Some pilots say just keep a pair of reading glasses handy. For those who have been through this, what have you found that works best. -
I'm off for the dreaded 44709 check ride tomorrow!

It sounds to me like he is trying to leave you a out by letting you go back through your logs and verify. Surely you must have accidentally left something on at some point or perhaps extremely long runups. The pipes would have been looked at as the engine was reinstalled, but they wouldn't have necessary made the log entry for the AD.- 131 replies

Post like this makes me thankful for our $65 enclosed hangers. They may not look as nice as some, but they are lockable and keep the plane dry. They have water and electricity also.

We don't have sales tax on private transactions here in Alabama. I thought I remembered a thread for a few years ago where someone had purchased a plane in Florida or purchased one elsewhere and moved it into Florida and got hit with a unexpected bill a few weeks later. Every state is different, some research up front may save you money in the end.

I believe others have mentioned sales taxes issues in Florida.

Both mcmaster and allied electronics has a good selection of generic knobs.

When we design and manufacturer a new product or reach some other milestone, everyone involved usually signs it as it comes off the assembly line, it usually goes in a display case then. They have done that at the last 3 companies I have worked at, so it must be somewhat common.

Yes the cleveland and gerdes are the same cylinder. Both them and the paramount are 5/8 diameter bore. The 10-24d is a larger diameter bore, but still a drop in replacement. It also has a external spring instead of internal as the others do.

Gerdes A-110-37 Cleveland 10-49 Cleveland 10-24D The numbers above are from memory, so check the manual. I swapped my originals out last year. If I remember correctly, they are susposed to be swapped out in sets.

Why no Windows or Android based in Flight Map System

Logitech makes a very nice keyboard that is Bluetooth. It also serves a cover when closed, I've been using the keyboard for 2 years now. There are also apps that will create, save and edit office compatible documents. I resisted buying the ipad for the same reasons you mentioned for about 2 years. I use it exclusively now and don't even travel with a laptop anymore, it's probably the most used purchase I have made in the last 2 years. The computer at home might get used once a week now. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/ultrathin-keyboard-cover -

There was an A&P examiner in Texas a few years ago that was giving out fake A&P license. This went on for several years before the FSDO caught on. I believe there were several thousand A&P's that the FAA made retake the test. Many of them had already been out in the workforce for several years.

Lycoming cams are already hollow, so they just plug up the end with an expansion plug. They also they drill holes from the each cam bearing surface of the cam into the center hollow part of the cam. This allows the inside of the cam to be filled with pressurized oil. Then they drill 2 holes in each cam lob so the oil can spray out onto the lifter face as the cam is getting ready to push the lifter up. I had them modify my cam last year when we overhauled our engine.

The older Mooneys have a service bulletin about the routing of the fuel hose that connects to the bulkhead fitting on the firewall and connects to the mechanical pump. The fuel line should connect to the fitting at an upward angle so there is no low spot for water to get trapped and freeze. The SB had never been done on my plane when we purchased it. We complied with the SB when we overhauled the motor last year.

There is a older guy a a nearby airport that is no longer able to fly his Cessna by himself, but still likes and wants to fly. There is also a person in their early 20 who wants to fly but can't afford to very much. So most Saturdays, weather permitting the young guy picks the older guy up at his house and they go to the airport and go fly the older guys plane for an hr or so. They have been doing this for several years.

Have you considered getting the Brittain wing leveler back working and upgrading it? Is the Brittian Turn Coordinator still installed? Even if you have to buy a replacement turn coordinator and 4 servos, this will be the cheapest option by for. Other than those parts and the disconnect valve, its just a bunch of tubing.

If there is any structural corrosion, then no. If there isn't any and your able to invest a lot of your own time and have an A&P who will sign off any work, then it could turn out ok. If there isn't any major corrosion and the fuel tanks are ok a few thousand in parts and your labor should get the airframe back in airworthy condition. You can probably expect to overhaul the engine/prop. The cost for this can vary all over the place, once again depending how involved your A&P is willing to get and if their willing open up the case.

There is a very long thread on Beechtalk about the pains GAMI has been going through trying to get certification. George has provided updates to the thread several times, I believe one of the last ones I read he said they were going have to get a "Blanket" STC to cover all the models. They have done a considerable amount of testing, much of it with FAA pilots and engineers in the plane.

Anyone know anything about this plane? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1978-Mooney-M20J-201-with-Collins-Century-IIB-Auto-Pilot-N201LM-/261345418486?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3cd9669cf6&item=261345418486&pt=Motors_Aircraft

We had to replace ours about 2 weeks ago. An overhauled exchange is a little over $200. Rapco and Tempest both also sell new ones which are about $300 and $375. I ended up going with the Tempest tornado 3000 which has a visible wear port and a 3y/1300hr warranty. It takes 1-2 hrs to change and the bottom nut next to the oil filter is a PIA to get started and tightened. They sell a special wrench for it, but it is still difficult. Dangling the washers and then the nut on a piece of tape seems to work for getting them started.

Its the large building on the beach just to the East of the runway. As for as I know its still open. There are also several private homes for about the same price that are nicer.
