  1. Any recent work on the panel? You can ping out your interconnects between your navigator and radio coupler as a first step How about heading mode? Is it just Nav/omni or localizer mode as well?
  2. So the combination of human factors and equipment factors (ie chute) should be an optimal path to improved safety outcomes
  3. @CGarrisonI have my old trim switch available if you’re interested in it.
  4. Speaking of blowers - here’s my cooling solution for my wife’s reef aquarium. It was getting too hot, so a 12V boat bilge fan, PWM controller in lieu of a rheostat, and a WiFi heater / cooler thermostat that’s home brewers like to use. It was my Mother’s Day gift to her :-). I used the same basic setup that I used for my 12V frankencooller (ice chest AC unit)
  5. The oem hose is separate from the cabin environmental controls. It just comes in through a naca duct forward of the door. No valve / mixer or anything. Just spits outside air behind the panel. If you choose a blower, it is like a server case fan. It grabs ambient air from the cabin and pushes it to the 5/8 hose receivers on the back of most 1990-2000s era avionics. My newest radio (GNC255) does not have a hose - it has its own fan instead.
  6. OP needs to figure out what kind of flying he will be doing 80% of his trips and buy around that. Mooney and 182 are both great for slightly different purposes. I don’t see unimproved surfaces on his list of wants, nor do I see pack to the gills and fly it. Trips to BID, or ME - either one would work. Up and down the coast and there’s a significant advantage to the Mooney for sure. West coast and mountain flying you’d consider a turbo. Unless the waas issue is solved I’d avoid the newer G1000 models and look for one that can be upgraded. I know I’m Gods gift to aviation, but I bought my J at around 150 hrs and an IFR ticket. It’s doable with proper commitment to training. It takes the proper commitment to training and currency. Where are you located? I’d consider looking at DXR, BDR depending on where you are located. It’s not just the paint- avionics and airframe will have a hell of a hard time outside. Plus you will get snow and ice, and spend about 75% less time taking care of your bird than if you’re in a hangar. Trust me I was in the ramp for two years in OWD with no hangar options. It ain’t easy in the NE.
  7. Gotcha. Cody Stallings @Cody Stallings is the prop guy. He’s in AR. https://www.stallingsaircraftpropeller.com/contact
  8. If shipping weren’t an issue I’d sent to Cody in a heartbeat. He’s such a an honest valuable resource here on Mooneyspace and knows Mooney’s.
  9. I learned to do one final say out loud thing as I’m taxiing onto the runway - “what can kill me on takeoff?” Then I check Fuel, flaps, spark, trim.
  10. Is this the 231 that you found that needed an engine and a prop project?
  11. Sounds like this would be a minor mod with a logbook entry if it’s Faa / PMA. It does not reach the threshold for any of the criteria for a major modification, it’s an approved part and has a TSO approval (thus the approved data exists). I’m not an AP / IA but I’d be perfectly OK as an O/O with installing this with a logbook entry from any AP.
  12. Unless there ain’t no gas ... In this situation potential water contamination
  13. My 1976 has the single tube from the right footwell NACA duct. On my last two flights exactly 1.5 hrs in GTX330ES rebooted. It was hot to the touch. Similar environmental conditions. Also my wife was / is always chilly so we did heat on the floor (and so I don’t suffocate, some cool fresh air from the ceiling). I found that my defrost tube had worked loose the the heater was spilling air. It may be a very good idea to have a blower installed. I might recommend this one from spruce and some 5/8 tubing. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/avpages/lonestarEntertainBlower.php?clickkey=3239555
  14. Hypothetically- change in environment (ie lack of a previous trigger) or a sort of natural immune modulation to with infection.
  15. And increased rudder effectiveness with increased landing speed. I use half / takeoff flaps for xwind component of greater than 10 kts. Or if I’m iffy about the “landing assured” status of my approach I’ll keep the 1/2 flaps because there are no configuration changes to be done on the go In terms of landing distance and ground roll, I might plan for 10-15% additional distance. Honestly there is usually a quartering head wind component so my ground roll is typically less half flaps gusty day than a smooth day. If I need to think that hard about 10-15% ground roll mattering in windy / challenging conditions, I’ve probably chosen the wrong airport to land at.
  16. She should have just flown in formation. One with and one without transponder and ads-b. ;-p
  17. I’d be ok with certain shops opening up my plane. Others I wouldn’t let near it. Should be worked out prior to signing a PA.
  18. So if this were Jerry Wagner flying under a bridge (which may have had vehicles), we’d be piling on and quite content with the FAA action. Because it’s Martha and there’s some nostalgia and she writes articles for AOPA, people are coming to her defense. We don’t fly our little planes under bridges. People generally think pilots are daredevils and GA planes fall out of the sky left and right. GA Airports are endangered species, and media is now doing splash articles about lead intoxication in impoverished kids and attributing it and adult repository problems in urban areas to piston single exhaust. Martha’s not an ambassador for the preservation of GA pulling shit like this. It’s one more thing that continues to put GA at risk. The faa was correct to perform a certificate action.
  19. I use a 52-r with a 330Es l, 430 and 660. It’s a poor mans 750 / 345 and does just about everything that I would want it to do.
  20. I guess my 8th grade English teacher was a crispy critter - the entire year we read nothing but dystopian fiction and unhappy memoirs with one “comedy week” in the middle of the year.
  21. Only the new generation of radar terminals can use and display ads-b. Not all ATC facilities have the new equipment. That’s how my local ATC explained it to me when they had a demo unit in their meeting room but hadn’t had the installation yet.
  22. Exactly doesn’t work at larger airports. But it may help make 91 days 89 days
  23. Don’t make it easy for them either Block your n number on FlightAware and the other sites dont use your tail when purchasing fuel don’t use your N when announcing on ctaf. Just color and MM. its not perfect but it doesn’t make you low hanging fruit either.
