FlyQ EFB airway routing question
flight2000 replied to SethKeefer's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Forgot to mention that customer service at Seattle Avionics is really good, so you may have an answer within a couple hours if during normal business hours. May not be a fix just yet, but they've always gotten back to me pretty quick with questions. Brian -
FlyQ EFB airway routing question
flight2000 replied to SethKeefer's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
That is strange. I was playing with FlyQ a bit last night and it was hit and miss on filing the victor airways in the ICAO flight plan section. On a new plan, the victor airway shows up. Make one change to the route and it reverts back to listing all of the waypoints. I've never used FlyQ to file, usually do that with Fltplan.com since I can see other assigned routes from past flights, etc. I manually enter it into FlyQ after that since it helps me become a little more familiar with the routing. Just my preference on doing it that way though. Cheers, Brian -
Foreflight Legal for IFR Navigation?
flight2000 replied to 201er's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
cnoe, You need one of these. Haven't had an iPad overheat in the cockpit since buying and placing it in operation. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/pspages/x-nautipda13-19502.php?clickkey=4007009 Cheers, Brian -
Anyone familiar with Matthews Aviation in Yerington, NV?
flight2000 replied to helitim's topic in General Mooney Talk
Don't know his shop, but fly over Yerington a lot. Talk about setting up a business in the middle of nowhere. Yikes! (not really, but it sure seems like it's in the middle of nowhere...) Have you asked him for some references for planes he's done in the Central California area that you can go see? I did that prior to picking my paint shop back in 2010 and spoke with previous customers. I was surprised that I was able to see a good range of aircraft (age wise) since they were painted. Great sign if he's willing to do that. Brian -
I used http://www.gcmap.com/, which is the same one @Mooneymite highlighted in his post above. The maps became easier to read if I simply used regional based flights instead of all of them. Wish they could make it bigger, but that's what they give you... I've used the website before and it also has a pretty cool feature for looking at range circles based on endurance and location input. Cheers, Brian

Here's mine. Some smaller airports are missing, but this is probably a good 90% solution... Got a coast-to-coast move coming up in June going Reno, NV to Richmond, VA. Cheers, Brian

Darn it, why didn't I think of that while I was up there last summer. Oh, that's right, the misses was busy dragging us all over Juneau during the short layover, but the glacier was cool. Sounds like that was amazing flight. Did you get to fly over Mendenhall Glacier? Cheers, Brian

KRNO: 11001x150 for 16R/34L or 9000x150 for 16L/34R. Runway 25/07 is the shorty at 6102x150, but rarely gets used. Field elevation is 4,420 msl. Brian

Reserving old, expired N numbers
flight2000 replied to tigers2007's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
How has he corrupted the system? You and I have the same access to the FAA website and could do the same thing. He choose to make a business out of it. From his website, looks like he's doing pretty well doing his business this way. Brian -

Ask Nike how much they shelled out for N1KE.... or N7UP.... If it fits their marketing scheme or image, I'd bet corporations pay for those custom numbers. Brian -
Reserving old, expired N numbers
flight2000 replied to tigers2007's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Yep, N6P was just advertised at $75,000 on Beechtalk. He's gotten a lot of crap (rightfully so in my opinion) for it, but he uses the same system we do (online). He targets corporations which will shell out big bucks for these "custom" numbers. No different than domain name squatting. I've seen some sell in the high 8 figures.... Not going to fault him if he plays the game better than me, even though I hate it.... The FAA releases numbers everyday, so you have to check the website and be the first one to snatch it. I would bet he's using this website: http://www.tailnum.com/?updateid=20170213&action=Display Cheers, Brian -
Meh, you were just fresh meat and a target of opportunity for them. You'd be surprised at what they use for "target" practice..... You play in their sandbox and you takes your chances...you always have a vote in the matter. Cheers, Brian P.S. Not taking anything away from your surprise visit, would have scared the heck out of me too...Fallon NAS is the new "Top Gun" location, so I stay well clear of those MOAs out in my neck of the woods.

Just contact the controlling agency before barreling through the MOA to see if it's hot. The agency and frequency is listed on the sectional and if nothing else, they now know someone is transiting the area VFR. Too easy to not make a simple radio call.... Even outside MOA's out here in the western US, I worry about getting hit by a fast mover, especially with all of the low-level IR routes. F16 versus C150 in 2015 is a perfect example of how bad it can get even when one is IFR (F16) and the VFR C150 pilot was just out doing his thing while leaving KMKS... http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2015/07/cessna-150-and-f-16c-fighting-falcon.html Cheers, Brian

I purchased the full size version for my iPad Air, but it won't fit where I wanted it to go without losing my flight desk. I ended up buying the same thing for the iPad mini, so this one is for sale. It's never been used. The unit runs on 8 AA batteries or a micro USB cable can be used (not included). Sporty's sells these new for $199, but I'm willing to let it go at $155 plus shipping since I don't have the plastic bag/box it came in anymore. It does a great job keeping the iPad's nice and cool (at least it does with my mini). This will also include the Ram Mounting ball on the back (not normally included if you buy a new one). http://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/x-naut-cooling-case-for-ipad-air-1-2-and-pro-9-7.html Cheers, Brian

I've never been an early adopter for new software or the latest updates for this very reason (I'm still on v8.5.3). Thanks for blazing the trail for us Chris. Cheers, Brian

You are not mistaken. A lot of knob turning to add all of the VORs and intersections (when needed) that define the route. I save a ton of time now with the 650 by being able to load the airways, especially on long trips out west that cannot go direct due to those big, granite pointy things getting in the way... If I had the 430W still, I'd be looking at the FS210 to make transfers and route changes easier. Not a consideration for me now as others above said. Cheers, Brian

Oh come on, he's only the grim reaper for those that can't be saved.....he's not that mean, even if he's from Jersey... Cheers, Brian

M20E value, what is your opinion?
flight2000 replied to glafaille's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Okay, maybe not a boat-load, more like a small row boat.... Cheers, Brian -
M20E value, what is your opinion?
flight2000 replied to glafaille's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Not so fast my friend....it can be done and surprisingly quick, even at that price point. Well apportioned and well maintained aircraft will sell at higher prices. Either that or I just got really lucky finding the right buyer at the right time.... Having said all that, I really did think my 67E would be the last airplane I would own and I upgraded it to my liking over three years. New Paint = check... http://www.67m20e.com/new-paint.html New Interior x2 = check... (I can help you out with this one as I still have my old, upgraded seats before I went with all leather) Avionics upgrades x2 = check... http://www.67m20e.com/avionics-upgrades.html New Prop = check...3 days....(would have stayed with the AD req'd hub, but other issues caused a decision to upgrade to the newer Top Prop) http://www.67m20e.com/other-mods.html Lose a boat load of $$ when selling = check....but I never planned to sell it, so my bad... Here were the major selling points when I bought mine for $36K back in 2009. Solid frame, solid engine (>120 hrs SMOH), no corrosion, recent tank reseal, all AD's complied with to include Service Bulletin 208A/B. Longest downtime was for the paint at 5 weeks. If you need/want more info on cost of all those upgrades, just shoot me a PM or email. Cheers, Brian -
How'd you come up with that question from Alan's ad? FAA registry shows serial number as 2397, which is a 1963 C model... D Model serial numbers were 100-260. AFAIK, the serial number didn't change if/when it was converted to retracts. Cheers, Brian

RAM mount for 1967 M20F centre windshield post
flight2000 replied to podair's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
I don't remember the dimensions of the channel so can't verify if this one would work. The dimensions are listed on the website, so a quick measurement would be needed before buying. It's designed for mounting on a glareshield, but should work when positioned vertically. http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-177U Cheers, Brian -
Might try them tomorrow if I can get the plane out of the hangar with all the snow we got last night. One of the drawbacks of the foam version is they aren't as pliable when it's really cold in the hangar and you have to warm them up before putting them in. Cheers, Brian
-
If you ever decide to sell them, let me know. Being in the military for 23 years, I'm very comfortable with the simple yellow foam inserts. Thanks! Brian
