  1. Alan, What size tank do you use? Would you recommend a different size? I'm thinking of using the same source for, the price you paid.... Bestr regards, -a-
  2. I'm looking forward to Jim's iPhone findings. Old iEquipment bought at a nicely discounted price, improving situational awareness. Do we have an app that measures glide ratio in real time? WingX or something from the glider world? Best regards, -a-
  3. Oops, Nevermind... -a-
  4. Guys with turbos like FIKI. They have places to go on a schedule. O2 finishes the trifecta... Best regards, -a-
  5. I agree with Gordon above. Add a GTN to provide WAAS GPS,ILS,VOR approaches. Add Aspens for improved situational awareness. Add 310HP and TopProp to shorten T/O distance. Add GPSS to have the O fly for you. Or take what's in the plane and just go with it. The Eagle is a good machine to start with for the same reasons... Welcome aboard. Best regards, -a-
  6. TT's link above has a nice interpretation of the FAR. -a-
  7. OR You will have to read and interpret yourself. I am a private pilot, not an FAA lawyer. We get a lot of privileges and a fair amount of limitations as well. *********** I used the asterisks to highlight the section I am familiar with regarding sharing flight expenses *********** Ymmv... Special smiley faces are supplied accidentally by substitution of actual FAA chosen charcters with control characters selected by my iPad.... -a- The following excerpt is from the FARs, supplied by WingX..? §61.113 - Private pilot privileges and limitations: Pilot in command. (a) Except as provided in paragraphs ( through (h) of this section, no person who holds a private pilot certificate may act as pilot in command of an aircraft that is carrying passengers or property for compensation or hire; nor may that person, for compensation or hire, act as pilot in command of an aircraft. ( A private pilot may, for compensation or hire, act as pilot in command of an aircraft in connection with any business or employment if: (1) The flight is only incidental to that business or employment; and (2) The aircraft does not carry passengers or property for compensation or hire. ********************************** © A private pilot may not pay less than the pro rata share of the operating expenses of a flight with passengers, provided the expenses involve only fuel, oil, airport expenditures, or rental fees. ********************************** (d) A private pilot may act as pilot in command of a charitable, nonprofit, or community event flight described in §91.146, if the sponsor and pilot comply with the requirements of §91.146. (e) A private pilot may be reimbursed for aircraft operating expenses that are directly related to search and location operations, provided the expenses involve only fuel, oil, airport expenditures, or rental fees, and the operation is sanctioned and under the direction and control of: (1) A local, State, or Federal agency; or (2) An organization that conducts search and location operations. (f) A private pilot who is an aircraft salesman and who has at least 200 hours of logged flight time may demonstrate an aircraft in flight to a prospective buyer. (g) A private pilot who meets the requirements of §61.69 may act as a pilot in command of an aircraft towing a glider or unpowered ultralight vehicle. (h) A private pilot may act as pilot in command for the purpose of conducting a production flight test in a light-sport aircraft intended for certification in the light-sport category under §21.190 of this chapter, provided that— (1) The aircraft is a powered parachute or a weight-shift-control aircraft; (2) The person has at least 100 hours of pilot-in-command time in the category and class of aircraft flown; and (3) The person is familiar with the processes and procedures applicable to the conduct of production flight testing, to include operations conducted under a special flight permit and any associated operating limitations. 8. 20hr/ mo? Who is your target audience? I don't understand this one compared to my aged rental experience. Seems like a lot of hours. Best regards, -a-
  9. OR, there is guidance from the FAA regarding shared expenses. You want to be cautious to avoid behaving like a commercial pilot without the rating. It's right up there with bringing passengers on a work related flight and how to handle the related expenses. Best regards, -a-
  10. Cabana, Was that off the top of your head? Or did you have to look up the words first? Nicely done... Best regards, -a-
  11. Why would FI make a difference in your decision? The carburetor has a small orifice that could be obstructed if dirt/rust particles were somehow to be able to get past the filters and screens... One carburetor vs four fuel injectors... Carburetor sounds like a worse option. Best regards, -a-
  12. Bill, Craig set up a payment method using pay pal within the last year or so. You may be able to use the search function to find it, in the mean time.... Best regards, -a-
  13. EB, Half way to TBO with a turbo Mooney. The cost of greatness is a few cylinders along the way. If you don't wear them out, you haven't been flying, fast... Just my observation, this is not a scientific collection of data. Ymmv. It does seem challenging to get good cylinder pressure data for Continental engines. Best regards, -a-
  14. Canards must be tough on props? Tires kick up FOD and pass them through $$ prop blades...? In this case, composite blades... Or is that just the cost of doing business? Best regards, -a-
  15. Welcome aboard, Joe. Best regards, -a-
  16. Interesting app. The picture indicates an O3. I tried to get additional info but could not access it. Looks like you would need to verify it's results against your actual POH. I would like to buy something like that direct, officially from Mooney! Best regards, -a-
  17. I took up flying to avoid speeding tickets... I did enjoy driving in parts of Europe for a few years where my Garmin did the recording for me.... Best regards, -a-
  18. Avoiding the bottom right would be helpful... I accidentally touch buttons down there already on my iPad.... Best regards, -a-
  19. No, that wasn't it....
  20. One of these days, I'll share the picture of the new owner's C150 with the broken tie down.... -a-
  21. With a long warranty! Fill it to the top, and let it sit prior to leaving.... This way you will feal better that you at least did the best you can to test the new tanks before taking it home. Good luck, -a-
  22. Byron, your plane will be nicely tied down, when the yahoo from accross the ramp bumps into it. Just say'n.... -a-
  23. The LED sounds like a good option.... Probably has a longer life as well. I had LED post lights in my C. They were direct replacements for the originals. This is a nontechnical opinion. I am not the electrical engineer. Etc. etc. Best regards, -a-
  24. If you buy a factory reman, the SS parts come with the kit... -a-
  25. Doing you own leg work for $2k in savings sounds pretty good! Best regards, -a-
