Bump Any further gotchas along the way?

Quote: Mitch With all due respect to Barry, as an option, if you are handy with a hack saw, a drafting compass, a drill press with a hole saw and a file, you can fabricate the panel yourself.

I also have nulite rings. They are great and I like them a whole lot more than post lights.

I just hit the back button too get to the home page. When I pressed reload I got a message saying I was already logged in and could not log in again. Then I went back to the Forums when lo and behold, I saw I was logged in twice. Well, I logged out once, skipped back a couple pages and tried to press logout again. But -- one N223MM remained? Curious, I tried to login again and <drum roll please> there were Three N223MMs. I wich it were this easy to clone someone to go into work for me! I wonder if this has anything to do with people being given different identities when they log in?

Quote: Buster1 I've been narrowing my search, some of the 231s seem great from just reading online and looking at pics. I'm focusing on Ks with the LB, and low time engines. This one is a steal if you ask me. Needs some interior TLC and glass though. Can I get your thoughts? http://www.aso.com/listings/spec/ViewAd.aspx?id=121911&listingType=true

I have also been looking at that one on the internet with pretty much the same pluses and minuses that everyone else is mentioning. One other plus to me is the 0 SMOH prop. The ADF and the Loran are pretty much obsolete in my book if GPS WAAS is in place. The radar altimeter is interesting and not something I have seen in my (limited) searches so far. Another area of concern - the last recorded flight on FlightAware was in December of 2008. (http://flightaware.com/live/flight/N231KY) Personally, I like the red leather - YMMV.

Try using the Target=_blank option when you add the link. If the forums supports html then writing it would look something like this: (edit) <@ href="http://picasaweb.google.com/n223mm/N223MM#5350136815695072994" target="_blank">161 TAS @ 9500 Replace @ and /@ with an a and /a. I only out this in because the software IS recognizing it and creating a link out of "target=..." (end edit) Here is what it looks like with the pop up box method. Notice that it does not keep my prefered "Title" of "161 TAS @ 9500" http://picasaweb.google.com/n223mm/N223MM#5350136815695072994 That could be a bug in the forum software or an operator error - not sure at this point. Either way - it does open a new browser window in IE7.

This is all some good information, thanks. It looks like having complete, and well written logs is one of the things I should use in my search. Carl

A recent thread on a 201J for sale got e to thinking about high time Mooneys. What are the highest time Mooneys that you personally know of? I also found this in http://mooneyspace.com/index.cfm?mainaction=posts&forumid=3&threadid=7 Quote: airguy55 Good god, the fuel leak problem. .... I use to maintain the Embry Riddle fleet of Mooneys and we saw the most used highest time been thru hell and back flight training Mooneys out there. We came up with a few AD's lots of SB's and alot of good ideas along the way. we did 100 hrs every 14 days on average. Best flight training airplane out there, except for the cowling fasteners wearing thru the cowlings. What maintainence issues are going to be common on high time airframes. I am presuming that they got to be high time because they were well used and maintained well. Does that seem to be a good hypothesis?

Test <edit> Well, I tried to attach a .wmv and it did not work </edit>

This looks like the ebay plane. They are asking 79.9K http://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft-for-sale/MOONEY-M20J-201/1985-MOONEY-M20J-201/1138663.htm

All good advice. You might also check with "FIREWALL FORWARD - LOVELAND, CO". They could tell you when the engine FWF was done and give you an impression of what they saw at the time. <edit added> If you do contact them ask if they installed there STC cam. I missed it, what is plane C? Silly question: can a regular garmin be upgraded to WAAS? Carl

Okay, now I can't get Randy Nweman's "Rednecks" out of my head. "We got college men from LSU..."

How about something like this? I have had glass in my panel for a little while now and can report that it is great. If I go through with getting a Mooney it is going to be something I seriously consider. Of course, right now I cheat. I do not have to use the certified stuff so I can get basic glass for about 10% of what we'd pay for real equipment that I could use in IFR. Carl N223MM

Separating commercial posts into their own thread(s) lets you have it both ways. Vendors still get to post and interested members still get to read said posts. Carl Edit: Whoops -- I said threads but I meant Forums. A Forum like "Classifieds" or "Vendors" might be a good addition to the site.

I would try to isolate it to the fuel pump or landing light. Dig up your electrical schematic and then try to replicate the results on the ground with just the fuel pump or just the landing light. If you can isolate one of those in conjunction with the nav lights as the culprit then you can get out the multi meter and try to find the short. Doing that yourself can save a couple hours of labor charge with the A&P before you take it in. If your mechanic will supervise you at a reduced rate, all the better. You get to learn some of the ins and outs of your machine and get mentoring. If your time is worth more than shop rates you could just take it in. I would want to suss this out before flying again though, especially at night. Carl

Don't know if it gets any better than this!

What kind of anoyances are involved in repatriating a US build aircraft? Just curious. Carl
